This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima receives updates this year that make it less of a family sedan and more of an entry-level luxury sport sedan. Headlining this year's upgrades is a 3.5-liter V6 that produces a stunning 255 horsepower. For maximum performance, sport-tuned SE models now combine this engine with a standard six-speed manual transmission. Other changes include revised exterior styling, additional feature content and an optional GPS navigation system.

Pros:
  • Impressively powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, plenty of room for five adults.
Cons:
  • Odd styling details, high price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

I just love my new Nissan Maxima. Its awesome. I love that damn powerful engine. The exterior is not bad. But if you want the exterior look more appealing, then buy body or aerodynamic kits for Maxima. It will looks great!

Ive waited 3 years to get a Maxima. Well worth the wait! I went with a black SE 6 speed with black leather interior. The only thing that I did not get with this car was the Navigation System. All I have to say is WHAT A CAR!!! I have had the car only 2 weeks and I already have 1500 miles on it! Just drive one of these and you will want one too.

Just picked up a Maxima SE with sunroof for $1,000 under invoice. Love the majestic blue color. Interior is great. It is hard to imagine any car that is drasticaly better. Feels like a $40,000 car. One of the best sport sedans out there.

This car stinks, its a rattle trap. The resale of the car is terrible. The suspension feels like it came from a truck. Stay away from this car at all costs. I should have bought a Acura TL-S or Lexus IS 300 instead.

This is a great car fun to drive. Gas mileage is pretty good. It requires premium gas at least 91 octane. I used 87 octane and the car sounded like a diesel engine. Not good! Spend the little extra money and use premium and the car will run a lot better. This is my 2nd Maxima. I previously owned a 94 Maxima GXE, kept it til 235,000 miles and everything still worked. I plan to do the same with this car. Everything is laid out pretty nice and easy to use, Bose stereo sounds w/sub really great. Ride is a bit rough on bumpy roads, but its an SE with sports suspension. GLE I suppose will have a better ride, but you cant beat the handle on the SE with 6sp gear box. Which rare car to find!

The Nissan Maxima is a well built and solid family sedan. The "VQ" family of engines is considered one of the best V6 engines in the world.

This is a great car. Mechanically, it is unbeatable by any other car. The only re-occurring issue with these cars is that one side of the Bose 6 CD in- dash CD Stereo stops working at some point. It is only does this when using the CD player; the other modes still produce great sound. Some cars have the heater/AC blower motor go out around 100,000 miles, but it is easy to fix. The car maneuvers great and has great power for its time. The gas mileage is good, but since I have a 6- speed manual, I drive a little faster and quicker (Ok maybe that was an understatement) my gas mileage is a little less that average. I get about 18-19 mpg in the city

My husband and I just bought the 2002 GLE model, used. It has 46,000 miles on it. So far we love just about everything about the car. We had looked at other sports sedans (Acura, BMW, VW Passat, etc.) Overall, the Maxima just impressed us more. It feels like you are driving a luxury car and sports car at the same time. We live in the NE, so we will see how it handles in the winter.

Anyone looking for a great sports car with a reasonable price should look at the Maxima. This is my second one and I love it. I paid well under 30K for a loaded SE, I cant believe all you get for that price. You would pay almost 40K for a similar equiped BMW or Lexus. My only compliant is the ride is a little harsh, but I can overlook that as the rest of the car more than makes up for it.
