This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima has been fully redesigned for 2004. It now rides on the same underpinnings as the well-received Nissan Altima. This year's Maxima is longer, wider and more powerful than the previous version.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • Some small, oddly arranged controls.

  • What a beaut! - 2004 Nissan Maxima

At 6000 miles I havent found a flaw yet. Ive gotten 28 mpg on hwy and 24 city with regular gas. Get raves from friends and strangers all the time. With the drivers preferred package I got all the bells and whistles I have always wanted. Glad I got the SL for a little more comfort.

had a 95 Maxima-best car I ever owned. Expected the same with my new 2004 Maxima. But, oh boy, what a disappointment. Drives like a truck, handles like a used Buick (no offense Buick owners), very poor gas mileage, auto trans and brakes erratic, poor interior ventilation, uncomfortable arrangement of seat, dash controls and steering wheel. Has a fine, powerful engine and may be fun to drive on highway, but in real-life everyday driving its only mediocre.

I have really enjoyed driving this car for the past 18 months. I have had no problems and the dealers routine service has been very efficient. The car is roomy front and back. I enjoy the heated steering wheel and seats. Great acceration, I can feel the torque in the steering. The Bose Sound System is enjoyable. Good gas milage. The Leather Heated Front and Rear Seats & Steering Wheel add to comfort. I enjoy the powered options: Moonroof, Heated Mirrors, Tilt and Telescopic Steering Wheel, Rear Window Sunshade, Driver Seat w/Memory and Retractable Mirrors.

  • Chose over G35 at last minute - 2004 Nissan Maxima

I was all set to get the G35 until the Infiniti dealer let me drive the G over to compare it with the Max one last time. Some major pluses IMO over the G35 is there is more space, bigger tires, overall the car looks better, the interior is done slightly better and you get a lot more options for the same price. The areas where the G35 stand out is 1) pampering at infiniti dealers 2) has better handling than the Max. 3) luxury. Long term wise the G is probally better overall but if you dont plan to keep cars for more than 3 or 4 years then the max is better.

  • 4 Door Z? - 2004 Nissan Maxima

Having bought a luxury car for the Mrs., I wanted something sporty. For me the Maxima SE was the one, since my 90 Max, with well over 200K mi., was ready to be upgraded. Found an 04 with 12K miles on it and scooped it up. I would have loved to have had the Z, but with 2 children, I went for the next best thing. Two words: Close Enough!! It has plenty of room, lots of gadgets, which I like, an extremely powerful engine, a tranny you cant even feel shift, and the BOSE system is sweet. It rides nice and smooth for a car sitting on 18s, and takes corners like nobodys business. I love the distinct body style, from the aggressive front end to the mean pipes in back. This is one nice ride!!

  • Good car, not quite a great car. - 2004 Nissan Maxima

The 04 is the 3rd Maxima Ive owned (95 GXE &99 GLE previously). The redesign caught my eye as Nissan really upgraded from the previous bland edition. Looked initially at the SL model, but the handling of the SE sold me. It took me awhile to get used to the firmer feel, but when you can get it on the highway, it rides very smooth. The brushed aluminum vs. the wood grain on the inside took some getting used to, but now I really like it. Have gotten several positive comments from passengers and others about the overall look of the car.

This car has EVERYTHING I wanted and at a price I was VERY happy with. Got the Drivers Preferred Package w/o VDC or TCS (I dont need/want them). It is fast and fun to drive. I LOVE IT!!

  • Total Disappointment - 2004 Nissan Maxima

This car is a total disappointment. The timing chain went of the car after 26,000 miles. The care burns a ton of oil and the moon roof leaks. The motor is noisy and the problems just keep piling up. I also had the rear deck rattle and drove the service dept crazy until they fixed it. I finally got a real good service mechanic to put some extra foam under the deck to it would not rattle. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN PERIOD. THIS CAR STINKS

  • We love it - 2004 Nissan Maxima

This is a fun car with a lot of power. It definately is a head-turner. It is nice not to see tooo many on the road, so it still seems to have its aura. This is my first Nissan (Black on Black), We turned in our leased BMW 328 and this car is very comparable in my opinion on all levels.
