This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima receives updates this year that make it less of a family sedan and more of an entry-level luxury sport sedan. Headlining this year's upgrades is a 3.5-liter V6 that produces a stunning 255 horsepower. For maximum performance, sport-tuned SE models now combine this engine with a standard six-speed manual transmission. Other changes include revised exterior styling, additional feature content and an optional GPS navigation system.

Pros:
  • Impressively powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, plenty of room for five adults.
Cons:
  • Odd styling details, high price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

  • Best driving enthusiast sedan for ~$30k! - 2002 Nissan Maxima

If youre someone who loves to drive but also in the market for a sedan with high build quality and reliablity for a very reasonable price (from $24k - $32k), then the Nissan Maxima is the car for you. For the hardcore driving fans who would miss their sports cars, Nissan even offers a 6speed manual transmission and HLSD (improves handling on twisty roads). The Maxima handles extremely well, and power delivery (255HP) is smooth and breathtaking!

My 2002 Nissan Maxima GLE is a great car. Overall MPG is 24.4 using Mid Grade 89. NO major problems in 8+ years. One new set of tires and 1 new set of breaks. Had to replace the radiator at about 77K miles it blew. Otherwise zero problems.

You will not find any car with this price tag. I looked for 6 months, with the same package that this car comes with, all were asking above 30k. GRADE: A++ NISSAN! Nissan did its homework!

  • Having fun with a six speed - 2002 Nissan Maxima

I absolutely love it. It has been a good car for me. Buying it with 50,000 miles was miraculous. Especially with it being a six-speed. The car looks great and has beautiful horsepower. With it not being driven much I have had to replace the sprockets on the timing chain and little things along the way. But overall its a wonderful car I would recommend it to anyone.

This Maxima is my third Nissan. I still have the other two and love them. Very reliable and well built automobiles. We have had the 2002 Maxima, with every option, about three weeks and love it. As for the Bose audio and Nagigation system, must have options, in my opinion. About two seconds after using the Nav System I was hooked. Wonderful piece of gagetry. I bought the car virtually site unseen. I did not even test drive one. Ride, handling and performance are above expectations. Heated steering wheel, worth it. The Maxima is truly a wonderful car! We love the Maximas so much, my brother bought an almost identical car. His is a different color. :-)

  • Fast and good looking but eats oil - 2002 Nissan Maxima

Bought my Maxima in 2011 with 106000 car runs great and fast when using premium fuel. Mine has needed strus since the day I bought it. I have put 27K on it and im putting KYB strus on. My mechanic said the monroe struts are too weak for a cra of this performance level. Hard to believe my car burns 2 qts every 1k miles. With that said this car runs strong will fry the tires in first and second gear. I have replaced the factory stereo (that was junk) The interior is roomy and trunk is cavernous. I love the Zeon headlights most cars from 2002 don not have these in this price range I have replaced the radiator because the plastic tank developed a pin hole Still have original clutch

My 02 Maxima is the best car Ive owned. The 255 hp engines performance is superb and runs great on regular. The heated seats and steering wheel make early morning winter drives bearable. I plan to keep it until 200,000 miles.

Much better overall car than my 97 Maxima. All of the luxury car features at a family sedan price. All the power of a 2 door sports car hidden behind a 4 door family sedan outfit. Beats the crap out of my wifes BMW 328i in acceleration and comfort, but I would rather take that 40 mph curve doing 70 mph in the Bimmer!!!!! Great car.
