This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima receives updates this year that make it less of a family sedan and more of an entry-level luxury sport sedan. Headlining this year's upgrades is a 3.5-liter V6 that produces a stunning 255 horsepower. For maximum performance, sport-tuned SE models now combine this engine with a standard six-speed manual transmission. Other changes include revised exterior styling, additional feature content and an optional GPS navigation system.

Pros:
  • Impressively powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, plenty of room for five adults.
Cons:
  • Odd styling details, high price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

  • Lovin it! - 2002 Nissan Maxima

I have always wanted to own a Nissan Maxima. My dream came true the day I sold my "yuck" Ford sedan. The minute I got in to test drive the car I knew that this car was for me. With 255 horse powers this car has great acceleration. No longer do I struggle to merge onto the highway. Not with this baby! When you start out there can be a slight spinning of the front tires when the roads are wet, so care is needed here. With the stiff sports tuned suspension, the SE model feels well grounded, and hugs the road nicely on the curves. Overall Id have to say that this car rules!

  • Blows V6 Passat, Accord and TL away!!!! - 2002 Nissan Maxima

Only options I didnt get were the heated seats and traction control - dealer did not have one in stock with the frost interior - black leather was WAY too hot! Tested Acura TL, V6 Passat and V6 Accord, not as smooth a ride but lot more fun and roomier. Sticker said $29,500, but actual price paid compared to V6 Accord and less than Passat, TL with same options. Love the 17 inch wheels, looks fast and sleek. Awesome interior - nothing cheap in there, gated shifter, locks and handles all look phenomenal. Awesome passing power on interstate. Worried service will not compare to Acura or even Honda and VW.

This is a great car all around fun to drive, plus a great motor and really good brakes. I like this car and will keep it for years to come.

A great everyday driver with power for anything. Seemingly no creature comfort is spared in this agile sport sedan. An automatic transmission, power sunroof, Bose CD stereo, power drivers seat, ABS, and remote keyless entry for under $25000? This is a bargain, my friends.

  • an excellent value - 2002 Nissan Maxima

i really have to think hard to complain about anything in regards to performance. the engine is perfect and the interior design is perfect. it is true that the ride of the se model is stiff on rough roads, but i like the handling of the sport package. i tried all the entry level luxury sedans, but this car gives you all the quality of those models for a lot less money. mine is loaded with the bose sound system, leather seats and sunroof. everyone who rides with me comments on how smooth the ride is, how great the stereo sounds and they love the acceleration you get when you punch it.

  • Speakers - 2002 Nissan Maxima

The left speaker on the 2002 maximas is defective from the factory. It works intermittently and is very annoying, dont replace with another Nissan speaker. It doesnt solve the problem replace with and after market speaker only, the system will work like new. Also rear suspension very giggly on high speed sharp turns causing wheel hop which might cause a crash.

The vehicle is the best value out there. Sportscar ride with a lot of power. Much more roomy than other cars in its class. Great trunk space as well.

I really like my car. It gets good gas mileage, especially on the highway (I have gotten up to 31 average mpg). It feels sporty and really has some get up and go, but doesnt feel as stiff adn roady as a lot of sporty cars. I prefer the not stiff feeling, but I wanted the look and pick up of a sportier car. Ive had no problems yet!

  • Excellent Car - 2002 Nissan Maxima

This is an excellent car other than the tire issue. You have not traction at all in snow so dont even venture out. I bought this as a family car but seeing how it will not handle well in weather I am considering selling for something that handles better. Doesnt even handle well in rain.

  • Simply Awesome for the price - 2002 Nissan Maxima

Nothing can compare with the Maxima for the performance quality and price. I shed a tear when my 1999 SE (47,175 miles) was recently totaled in a rear end collision. I walked away with a $19,215 insurance check. I went right back to Nissan and bought a loaded (except Nav)GLE with spoiler added. I only paid $25,752 (after $1,000 rebate) plus $400 for spoiler installed for a total of $26,152. Of course there was also the customary state tax, title and registration fees. I test drove the comperable Honda, Acura, and Lexus and they all have their good and and not so good points. However, when it came to value for the dollar, the Maxima won hands down, no contest at all.
