This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima has been fully redesigned for 2004. It now rides on the same underpinnings as the well-received Nissan Altima. This year's Maxima is longer, wider and more powerful than the previous version.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • Some small, oddly arranged controls.

This car is so quite that you wont even know its running when it is. I hate to go foreign in these difficult economic times, but you also have to in these times, get the best from your hard earned dollar. I want something reliable, and something that really fit my style. It was worth the money. I know if I ever go to resell this car, I will get a good turn over value too. That is always something to think about, should you be in the market of buying a new car.

This is my first Maxima and my 6th car. I am in outside sales, so I spend quite a bit ot time in my car. It is extremely comfortable, affordable, and classy enough to bring out clients. I am expecting it to survive as long as previous models....

  • Fun Mommy Car - 2004 Nissan Maxima

I love my car. I have always had sports cars or off road vehicles there fore i was not ready to give up my manual transmission. So, I purchased the 6-speed manual and love it. it has so much power very easy to manuver and too much fun for a mommy car. Which is why i purchased a safe, four door. I dont feel like i have given up my sports car at all. love the vehicle!

  • 04 Maxima GL Problems - 2004 Nissan Maxima

This is my 4th Maxima and I am not happy. There is a serious shift problem with the new autoshift, 5 speed transmission on GLs sold after Feb 2004. The dealer says "its normal" but other owners have the same problem!!! The gas cap is designed very badly. I just replaced the XM antenna, 2nd time, and it still works only about 60% of the time.

THE ONLY COMPLAINT I HAVE IS THE ROAD NOISE AND IT IS NOT AS COMFORTABLE OF A RIDE AS I HAD EXPECTED.

  • Never Again Nissan! - 2004 Nissan Maxima

Worst auto purchase I ever made. Hate the wide turn radius, the low profile tires dont last and provide a bumpy ride. Numerous expensive repairs, most recently the transmission went out, started slipping out of gear, jerking, reving up unexpectedly. Cost to repair $4,000 and Nissan wont do anything to help because it is 6,000 miles out of warranty, although there have been numerous problems with these Maxima transmissions. This car cost over $30,000 but now is only worth $8,000 at best.Poor gas mileage also. Body dents very easily. Bose stereo doesnt stay tuned.

  • Great Car - 2004 Nissan Maxima

This car is very quick for a 4 door sedan. Cruising at 100 mph+ is effortless. Suspension is very positive, perhaps to much so, for those with a feel for a very smooth ride. Turning radius is large, likely do to heavy duty cv joints to handle increased power. Power tilt and telescope with 2 person memory, (included in this memory is seat and mirrors), is a nice feature. CD storage is a joke-cant store or remove CDs while transmission is in park position. 4 heated seats and steering wheel makes for comfortable ride on cold mornings. Appearance very cool.

  • Maxima 3.5 SL is Awesome! - 2004 Nissan Maxima

New 265HP engine is so responsive, I was at 110 in less than a mile during the test drive. It does take a little time to learn how to use all the gadgetry included. Love the skyview roof as we rarely open the sunroof on our other car. Headroom is plentiful, interior space is roomy and the ride tells you its a luxury car. Only options we bought were the Drivers Preferred pkg, mats, splash guards because the standard features contain so much.

  • I LOVE this vehicle! - 2004 Nissan Maxima

I read a lot of the previous reviews and I think the main issue here is maintenance of a sporty vehicle. I usually get 28 MPG in town and 30-40 MPG on the open road (averaging over 80 MPH). Other than regular maintenance and fixing the suspension parts that my kids have bent over the years, I havent had any problems. I do replace tires nearly every year because I have the suspension set tight, nearly race ready (remember this is the same suspension the Mercedes Compressor has). I am an aggressive driver that loves to drive at high speeds on the open road. I have had the recalls done and my grill is still great. I am finally putting spark plugs and a K&N filter in it after nearly 90k miles.
