This Year's Model Updates:

A 20th Anniversary edition includes the 227-horsepower version of the standard 3.0-liter V6 from the Infiniti I30, as well as goodies like bronze-lensed headlight covers, a body kit, ersatz carbon-fiber interior trim, drilled metal pedals and a number of features normally optional on the SE. This special model also gets an exclusive color: Majestic Blue. A new Meridian package is optional on all Maximas, bundling side-impact airbags and a low washer fluid indicator with heated front seats and side mirrors, as well as special trunk lid trim. Adding optional traction control to the SE or GLE results in a Z Edition Maxima, for some zany reason.

Pros:
  • Silky and powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, room for the whole family.
Cons:
  • Odd styling details, high price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

I thought Nissan was the better deal compared to a comparable Accord. Boy was I wrong. In the past year Ive had to replace the rear calipers and the check engine light comes on randomly. At the time it first came on, the car was covered under the factory warranty. The Nissan dealer replaced what they said was a faulty oxygen sensor. The check engine light came on about 3 months later. By that time the warranty had expired. I had another shop determine it was a catalytic convertor. For now Ill just live with it.

Purchased my Maxima with 33k miles in 2004. Ran great and very reliable until around 2008. The maxima began to barrage me with check engine lights, needed an 02 sensor, brakes, MAF problems, muffler holes, and the list goes on. The car now has 124k miles and it is time to move on. As soon as I get one thing fixed, another thing goes down and I cant keep up with it. The car is very fun to own and I love the look and power of it but I cant keep up with the maintenance. According to the internet, 2001 Maximas are prone to every problem you can think of! Dont buy one!

Great car. Best engine of all v-6 in production ANYWHERE. Blows away newer camrys and accords. New accord has smoother ride but balky transmission. New camry is a gramma car, toyota engine troubles on older cams and siennas has soured me on toyota.

  • Great value for the money - 2001 Nissan Maxima

The Maxima is a great car for the money. The engine is the best - incredibly smooth and revs freely. Im not as impressed with the auto transmission as it sometimes hesitates and seems tentative when accelerating after coasting at a slow speed(under 20 mph) Not terrible but sometimes annoying. Shifting is silky smooth under hard acceleration above 4000 rpm revs - very impressive. Comfortable cabin. Ive never had a maintenance problem. A very well made and fun to drive sedan.

  • Love Nissans - 01 SE No Exception! - 2001 Nissan Maxima

This is my second Nissan Maxima. My first was a 94 SE, which I loved dearly; it had almost 200,000 miles on it, didnt need any major repairs, and was fantastic, until someone hit me and totaled it. Anyway, I purchased the 2001 SE this winter from a private seller, and couldnt be happier. Mine is "Sunlit Sand", with tan leather seats, moonroof, Bose system, auto everything, spoiler, the works. Its comfortable, stylish, and very well put together - everything I expect from a Nissan. I saw that others have had unfortunate experiences with theirs, but I am still a proud believer in these cars. As long as you take care of it, it will take care of you!

I bought my maxima 3 years ago as used, 40 k miles on it. Now it has 100 k miles and it still drives like new. Bose system is awesome. Power is also great. sport suspension is a little stiff , but you get better handling with it. Since Ive owned it I changed tires, oil, battery and some exhaust pieces. Tires are expensive ($800 for the set), original tires worked for 50 k miles. Drivers seat leather has some cracks, I guess its normal for that mileage. If driving over 70 mph, there is some wind noise. Overall, a solid quality sedan.

I bought my 01 Maxima SE with every available option ($31,500 sticker) from the original owner in 2007 with 106k miles on it. It just rolled over to 145k miles and I know it would run to 200k easily. Things I love about this car are the sports-sedan styling, the extremely powerful and silky V6, its good interior space, & high-quality fit and finish. My car has been very reliable and the engine and tranny are great. To date, Ive had to fix a rear ABS wheel sensor, the catalytic converter, new alternator, and a hinge and spring for the fuel door rusted off. It is also starting to rust where the rear plastic bumper meets the metal body frame on both sides of the car, leaving orange-ish stains
