Overview & Reviews
The Maxima receives updates this year that make it less of a family sedan and more of an entry-level luxury sport sedan. Headlining this year's upgrades is a 3.5-liter V6 that produces a stunning 255 horsepower. For maximum performance, sport-tuned SE models now combine this engine with a standard six-speed manual transmission. Other changes include revised exterior styling, additional feature content and an optional GPS navigation system.
- Impressively powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, plenty of room for five adults.
- Odd styling details, high price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

One Fast Car - 2002 Nissan Maxima
By dt - September 18 - 10:03 pmMy Maxima SE has all features except the navigation system. I was one of the first around witht he 6 speed manual. Incredibly fast car that still somehow gets above average fuel economy.

2002 Nissan Maxima GLE Meredian Edition - 2002 Nissan Maxima
By Ivan - August 4 - 6:23 pmIt is my opinion that the 2002 Nissan Maxima is the best sports sedan for under $30,000. You cant buy a better car for the money if you factor in all the options and excellent reliability of this vehicle. My wife has a 1996 Nissan Maxima GLE with over 100,000 miles and the only thing she replaced was an $18.00 halogen headlight. Now with more power (255hp) and torque, this car is a pleasure to drive.

Maxima fan - 2002 Nissan Maxima
By Mark3092 - July 13 - 2:00 amGreat car. Bought in November of 2001. I have put 36,000 miles on it since. Not a single problem. Plenty of power, and fun to drive with the 6- speed.

Fun - 2002 Nissan Maxima
By Nissan Driven - July 1 - 5:50 amPower Power Power. This is a fun car to drive. I bought mine used with 26000 miles on it. The mileage is horrible, but the power has to come from somewhere. The tires are 225 which are high performance tires and are expensive as well. Did I mention the power? Overall great buy. I think I will go wash it now.

Der Maximator 6spd - 2002 Nissan Maxima
By prodigalsun - June 27 - 2:00 amGot this car 3 weeks ago, and have put about a 1000 miles on it. Other than the Saab 9-5, I cant think of a car that depreciates as quickly, yet is as flat out reliable as the Maxima. The Maxs acceleration is awesome, the suspension while sporting for a family car, leaves a bit to be desired. I may invest in an anti-roll bar and a front strut brace to start of with to see if thatll cut down on the body roll. Overall, very pleased!

A Keeper! - 2002 Nissan Maxima
By bjb - June 4 - 11:43 pmQuality ride with great performance, excellent pick-up, handles great. Decent gas mileage. Reliable and fun to drive. I like my SE, but wish it was a quieter ride--too much road noise even when all windows are up. ALSO...be careful of driver side blind spot and wide turning radius--I adjust side view mirror carefully, and must plan ahead for VERY wide U turns.

Nissan Maxima SE - 2002 Nissan Maxima
By Ridre52 - May 20 - 10:00 amMy wife and I own a 1997 Nissan Maxiam SE with close to 100,000 miles on it. There has only been two things wrong with it (Belts broke ($36 fix) and alternator (Factory Recall). So far (knock on wood), its a great car. This is why we decided to spend the extra buck and go with a 2002 Maxima SE with every avaiable option including the navigation system (which rocks). I recomend this car to anyone. They truely are great cars.
