This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima receives updates this year that make it less of a family sedan and more of an entry-level luxury sport sedan. Headlining this year's upgrades is a 3.5-liter V6 that produces a stunning 255 horsepower. For maximum performance, sport-tuned SE models now combine this engine with a standard six-speed manual transmission. Other changes include revised exterior styling, additional feature content and an optional GPS navigation system.

Pros:
  • Impressively powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, plenty of room for five adults.
Cons:
  • Odd styling details, high price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

  • Needs better paint - 2002 Nissan Maxima

I love this car, overall quality is a 10 easy. Has lots of power and just about every gadget you could need. NissanUsa needs to address the problem with paint chips though. 2 days and I have 20 paint chips down to the primer. My acura has 7 after 4 years in the same driving area. That is pretty ridiculous. Now I have to pay out of pocket to have the hood and bumper re- painted and then add a clear bra. If they could fix that then this would be the perfect car.

  • Absolutely fantastic! - 2002 Nissan Maxima

This car is a terrific performer! Road feel is fabulous, incredible power, comfortable driving position, nice control layout. The 6-speed manual epitomizes "fun to drive". Only drawback -- torque steer. Jump on the accelerator and you better be holding onto the wheel. Everything else is practically perfect.

  • Cool, smooth, and fun - 2002 Nissan Maxima

I love this little car. It drives like a much more expensive sports sedan, (this one is the SE model), and has given me 3+ years of troublefree service, and I dont take care of it like I should. The only preblem I have ever had is ironically with the much touted Bose sound system, w/the 6 disc changer. It has been replaced twice (at no charge to me, even AFTER it was out of warranty), and it yet again is skipping and stops playing in below 50 degree weather until the interior warms up. Other than that the car and the dealership service department have been great!

  • Die Hard Nissan Lover - 2002 Nissan Maxima

I had a 1994 Nissan Maxima , After owning that maxima, i waited 2 years to save up and buy my 2002 nissan maxima se , need less to say, overall performance is good, but i was not impressed. Its going to cost me more money to address the car to my standing, by lowering it, adding aftermarket suspension, already bought aftermarket falken ze 512 tires, installed a strut bar front, rear and upgrading music, all that money spent, i should of considered a 2002/2003 Acura TL / BMW , after having honda for 1 year and driving it like hell i am impressed with honda .. i use to love nissan, but with the HID Theft issues and this hunk of junk.

  • Buzzes and rattles - 2002 Nissan Maxima

Car ran great the first 2,000 miles. Then, when starting up and engaging drive we get a grinding/rubbing noise. Once this started, we get lots of buzzing and vibrations in the gas pedal and steering wheel. Have taken to the dealer twice and told there is nothing wrong. Fun car to drive, but when a car costs this much the dealer should fix these type of problems. Will definitly NOT buy another Nissan.

  • What a pleasure to drive - 2002 Nissan Maxima

Pros: It feels solid and has quality materials. Quality has been exceptional. The Xenon lights are wicked bright. The 3.5L engine is powerful and smooth (my favorite part of the car). The radio controls on the steering wheel are easy and conveneint to use. The 17" wheels are beautiful, and corner well. Suspension is stiff, which is how I like it (other models are softer if you like). Cons: The turning radius seems exceptionally wide, making parking harder than it should. Power drivers seat took some experimenting to find a good position for me.

  • Nice car - 2002 Nissan Maxima

Nice car, except for 3 things that I dont like about it. Back seats are not good for tall people, suspension is Rough on the SE (you feel every bump), making a U-Turn is hard, same with parking spots. Also if you hit the gas and there is bumps on the road you better hold onto the wheel cause it locks up and and jerks really hard.

  • 02 MAXIMA SE - 2002 Nissan Maxima
    By -

The car is the compromise for a sports/luxury/family car. I love the car esp. the power. The front wheel bearing went out at 34,000 and I know someone with a little over 100,000 on his 02 SE and it has went out 4 times. It makes me think I need to get rid of mine. My O2 sensor went out the next after my bearing. Thank God it is still under warranty. Nissan needs to try to fix this problem. This is my only gripe about this car. The customer service you recieve could be improved by leaps and bounds.

  • Camrys and Accords are for suckers. - 2002 Nissan Maxima
    By -

It has a Six Speed Manual, 255 Horsepower Yiming Chain Driven motor, LSD front end, HID Lights and never needs anything. People who compare Camrys and Accords to this car are diluting themselves.
