Best Car Ive ever owned - 1997 Nissan Maxima
By Chelle415 - March 7 - 10:00 amI love this car because it was a good price for a well built car. It has all of the luxury ammenities of a larger car, without the cost, and also without the cheap feel of lower cost sedans. The car feels solid, runs strong, and responds well.

Great car!!!!!!!!!!! - 1997 Nissan Maxima
By Swifty1 - February 23 - 2:00 amreliable, responsive, powerful, and still good looking after 7 years, Much better than the 2004 which I just test drove. I am looking for an SUV now, and I will miss many things about this car!

Best car Ive ever owned - 1997 Nissan Maxima
By Maximalover - February 23 - 2:00 amIve owned American, German, Japanese and Swedish cars, and without question my 1997 Maxima SE is the most reliable of all. In 45,000 miles we literally had one part that malfunctioned under warranty, and other than standard service it has never been in the shop. Its a great car that family and friends have asked to buy, but were not letting go.

Superb car - 1997 Nissan Maxima
By jwaine - February 16 - 10:00 amOur 97 Maxima SE is one of the best, if the not be best, cars we have ever owned. Other than regularly scheduled maintenance, it has not required a single repair in over five years and 40,000 miles.

Outstanding Engine - 1997 Nissan Maxima
By reynard4 - January 15 - 7:16 amWe love our 97 SE. The engine is all that youve heard and more. It wont plant you in your seat like a 69 Z, but the power and torque range is broad and smooth. You can cruise at 60 and pop up to 80 to pass and the car just leaps ahead while maintaining a civil ride. The handling is quite good also and the car squats nicely under braking (4-wheel disc), with very little pitch. Not the biggest interior or trunk, but hey, when youre having this much fun, who cares!

4-door sports car indeed - 1997 Nissan Maxima
By Brian - January 11 - 12:06 pmFastest sub $30K sedan available with manual trans at the time. 11 years later still 0-60 sub 7sec. Very reliable sedan, sports sedan primarily, 4-door sports car second.

What a vehicle - 1997 Nissan Maxima
By It just wont die! - December 4 - 10:00 amI bought my Max with 42k miles in 2001 off a lease from a single previous owner. Almost 10 yr later it is still going strong with 234k miles on it! Yes it has issues with the sunroof leaking, and things that just go wrong with a car with its age but overall I am in awe at how good the engine still is. I bought this after a short stint with a 1989 maxima (my first car) which I loved and have no regrets. Every time I go looking at a newer ride I just cant justify the payments and contently crank up my trusty maxima and go about my business. This thing moved with me from Atl to TX (2 trips back to ATL and back) been to FL, DC, AL, MS, NC, SC and the states in between with no issues!

Every day its better - 1997 Nissan Maxima
By wollomombi - November 4 - 10:00 amThis car is probably the best equation for a car out there courteousy of the VQ power plant. I found the clutch differnt (used to eurpoean) but once you compensate for that, it is a joy to drive. It really does accelerate to 60 in around 7 seconds and doesnt have any nasty surprises on dirt, snow or mud. Best tyre combo: Michelin Alpine (excellent with this chassis) Suspension is easy to stiffen and if you are a Mod nut you can go with the 267hp turbo kit. Last note, My wife drives this car better than I can and I had to teach her stick and Ill be shooping for a new engine before a new car with this one.

Best Kept Secret! - 1997 Nissan Maxima
By kuoyc - September 3 - 10:00 amMy first car was a 91 Maxima, lots of fun and very reliable. My little sister got a 96 Maxima GLE in 1995. My parents sold their 89 Century for another 96 Maxima GLE. In May of 1997, my other sister got a 97 Maxima SE. I followed w/ my second Maxima in Oct. of 1997. No, we are not associated w/ Nissan in anyway. But our history of 5 Maximas in 7 years speaks for itself.
