This Year's Model Updates:

Fresh new styling with a decidedly industrial theme injects some much needed personality into the Frontier for 2001. A supercharged V6, making 210 horsepower and 246 pound-feet of torque (231 lb-ft with a manual tranny), is available on special Desert Runner, King Cab and Crew Cab models, which get black-chrome headlight surrounds. Supercharged Frontiers come standard with 17-inch wheels and a limited-slip differential and can be equipped with leather upholstery, bundled in a package that includes a premium audio system with in-dash CD changer and steering wheel controls, plus a security system. Interiors get new fabrics, gauges and dash trimmings, as well as a new steering wheel. Tailgate locks are standard across the board, and a number of new colors, with names straight out of a J.Crew catalog, are available, like Khaki, Salsa and Denim.

Pros:
  • Supercharged power, bold new styling, good interior ergonomics.
Cons:
  • Still no V6 for regular cab model, cramped crew cab cabin.

  • Efficiency over Power - 2001 Nissan Frontier
    By -

I bought this truck used from an individual in 12/05 and have since put about 12,000 miles on it. Overall, I love this little truck for what it is: an inexpensive, efficient little hauler. Its not very powerful or roomy on the inside, but for a "compact" truck (of which there really arent any more, these days) it excels in many other areas. I routinely average 26 mpg on the highway (as high as 30mpg on a couple of trips) and about 22 mpg in mixed/city driving -- this is fantastic, I think, given that this is a TRUCK and not at all designed for efficiency. Ive had a few mechanical issues to deal with (front suspension bushings worn, rear shocks worn) but nothing major to date.

  • Looks great, good interior, but problems - 2001 Nissan Frontier

My fuel system was replaced after repeatedly overflowing (see other owner comments), my ABS light goes on and off but a problem cannot be determined b/c it never is "on" at the dealership (so much for computer memory), and my automatic window needed repair. I was one step away from successfully completing a Lemon Law case against Nissan (3 visits to the dealer without a resolution) - they finally brought in a fuel system expert from CA to fix the problem. The gas mileage still stinks!

  • The most utility for the buck! - 2001 Nissan Frontier

This is the most versitile vehicle I have owned. I can haul the kids, camping gear, mountain bikes, take the wife to dinner and commute to work. This a less refined vehicle than some on the road (i.e. Lexus, Infiniti) but it gets the job down well with great exterior styling.

  • 01 Nissan Frontier v6 - NOT Recommended - 2001 Nissan Frontier

I would never recommend this truck to anyone. I am not saying it is horrible, it is just not a "truck". To begin with, these 3.3s are VERY underpowered. I would expect a small underpowered motor to have great milage, Yet they are HORRIBLE gas hogs !!! You might as well have a 350 v8 !!! Because, No matter city or highway driving and no matter what type gas, you can EXPECT 15 miles per gallon. The exhaust manifolds crack after about 75k miles, but, LUCKILY they are relatively easy to change. Handling is no good. After a lot of modifications and upgrades I still do not like it. (I take care of my vehicles and expect the most from them) I have 98 S10 which I would RECOMMEND any day over it!

  • 2001 Nissan Fontier 2x4 reg cab - 2001 Nissan Frontier
    By -

I have been impressed with this pickup. The only problem is that the rubber seals around the plastic fender flares are comming unglued. I hope its covered by the warranty. I have drived a few 8hour days and its pretty comfortable for a reg cab bench seat.

  • great truck - 2001 Nissan Frontier

purchased 4dr se long bed in may of 02 and while the gas mileage is rotten, overall I really love this truck. on the outside ther is too much plastic but it does make the truck different. I can load all my tools for work( about 1500 pounds) and go up the road with NO hesitation. Im really surprised and pleased with this truck!!!!!!

  • True to its Nissan/Datsun heritage - 2001 Nissan Frontier
    By -

Ive owned 3 of these trucks, starting with a 1970 Datsun PL521 (my first truck), and a 95 Nissan Hardbody XE. This 2001 base model XE 4 cylinder 5 speed is as good and reliable as the prior trucks. I bought it in June 2008 and it had only 85K on it. It now has 116K, and is barely broken in. When I first got it, I repainted it the original Silver and installed a new set of Firestone A/T tires. Ive only performed basics maintenance and a tune up and a newer battery. Ive driven this truck on one long trip to MO to bring back a bass boat from my Dads place. It towed pretty well, even in the Western VA mountains. (3rd gear up hills) I highly recommend this truck!

  • dud - 2001 Nissan Frontier

This vehicle appears to be sold for its looks; as a truck, it is next to worthless, especially given the that is equipped with a fake spare tire.

  • Gas Hog - 2001 Nissan Frontier
    By -

My Nissan is a Gas Hog. I am getting 13 miles per gallon,in the winter, and 15 in the summer. I know why the differnce form weather to summer is the cold, and no my foot is not to the floor. But this kind of mileage is very very very poor. I live in the north and we have bad winter, I had to get snow tire because nissan put summer tires on a 4x4 truck(how dumb). I wish nissan would do somthing with the frontier. with out the supercharger they are the weakest small truck out there. I had a Toyota Tacoma with the v6 and was getting 19 to 20 year round. I should have kept my Toy.

  • Great Truck - 2001 Nissan Frontier
    By -

I purchased my 01 4WD crew cab new in 4/01. I now have 33K miles on it and just now had my first problem. The drivers side front power window is getting stuck and will need to be repaired. Other than that, its been running great and gets tons of compliments. Sound system is great. Handles snow good in 4WD, but poor in 2WD
