This Year's Model Updates:

The all-new third-generation 2002 Altima represents a total revision and rethinking of Nissan's midsize sedan -- it brings a level of design and performance that currently does not exist in its class. With a choice of a 240-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 or 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an all-new four-wheel independent suspension, the Altima offers spirit with state-of-the-art technology. An aggressive new exterior design with increases in all major dimensions and a driver-oriented interior with myriad convenience and luxury features set the Altima apart in the highly competitive sedan marketplace.

Pros:
  • Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, high level of features, distinct new shape.
Cons:
  • All-new design could mean first-year teething problems and dealer mark-up.

  • Do not buy this car! - 2002 Nissan Altima

I had my engine and cat converter replaced in Aug of 07 free of charge due to only having 78,000 miles on my car. But they charged me for replacing my O2 sensors which was $450.00. Just last month in April one of my ignition coils went bad. Dealership wanted to replace all four. I declined and just got the bad one replaced. Two weeks ago my car stalled out on me when I was getting off the freeway, and I was barely able to drive it to the nearest dealer. Intake manifold and gaskets were damaged; they also recommended changing my spark plugs. Bottom line is these cars are pieces of crap, no matter how much money you invest in these cars to fix them something else is bound to go wrong.

I searched for months on what type of vehicle to buy, I went from a coupe, to SUV, to truck, and then I was online searching in the sedans category, I never realized they had redesigned the Altima. I bought it for the realibity, it has 20,000 miles on it. I bought it from a peronal owner with 11,000 miles on it. I love it!

Great car overall. Since I bought the car about a year ago, I have had to replace the boot on my shifter, because it came apart, and I have had to get the black part of my window repaired twice. Wish the dealership was a little better. Have gone there along time, since they changed owners they have been going down hill. The car handles great, I wish they offered sunroofs in the 2.5S, that is all I wanted when I bought my car, but I could not afford to go up the next step.

  • Fits me - 2002 Nissan Altima

I tried all of the competing makes, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and etc. The bottom line is Im 63" and the Nissan was the only car that I fit into. The car during the test drives stood neck n neck with all of the others. The interior was not the best of the lot but very functional. I bought the car and have nothing but kudos from everyone who has seen it. I travel 66 miles per day for work and I am averaging 28 to 29 mpg with less than 1000 miles on the odometer.

This car is the best, it has good handles on the turns and the design of the inside and outsies is the best.

  • Out of A Lincoln TC and into a fun car - 2002 Nissan Altima

Traded in a 95 Linc Town Car for my 2.5 S with AT. It was the beautiful design that seduced me. I kept the price down by not getting leather or a sunroof (never used it in my Town Car). I like the interior design but am having a brushed aluminum interior trim kit put in to make the interior look really hi-tech. It goes on in the same places as the wood trim. It looks great with the gray interior. I may put leather in later. I enjoy the response & handling. Great job, Nissan! Only problem I have is some kind of cord or wire harness hits against the back side of the glove box every time I take off, stop, speed up or slow down. I hope they dont have to pull the dash.

My wife got rid of her 2000 Toyota Camry just one year after purchasing it because she had seen the new Nissan Altima. Although, I think that I drive it more than she does and Im more of an SUV person. I am really glad that I pushed her to test drive this vehicle especially the 3.5 V6 model. Its taking a little while to get used to all of the looks from everyone on the highways and at restaurants. I cant wait to see what Nissan does to top this vehicle or can they?

  • Car #58! - 2002 Nissan Altima
    By -

This is the 58th car Ive owned and one of the best! While this dippy website dings me for the "seafoam green" color, I still get compliments nearly 2 years after purchase. In fact, I have people tell me theyd buy the same car color as mine but then there would be two in the neighborhood. I test the V6 and said, "what for?" The powerful 175 HP 4 cyl out performs the boring Honda and Camry by far! I added aftermarket wheels and it looks like a much more expensive car.
