This Year's Model Updates:

The all-new third-generation 2002 Altima represents a total revision and rethinking of Nissan's midsize sedan -- it brings a level of design and performance that currently does not exist in its class. With a choice of a 240-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 or 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an all-new four-wheel independent suspension, the Altima offers spirit with state-of-the-art technology. An aggressive new exterior design with increases in all major dimensions and a driver-oriented interior with myriad convenience and luxury features set the Altima apart in the highly competitive sedan marketplace.

Pros:
  • Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, high level of features, distinct new shape.
Cons:
  • All-new design could mean first-year teething problems and dealer mark-up.

I have owned Nissans for years including a 96 Altima. This one is great! Very roomy, more than my Maxima, especially in the back seat. A little under powered with the 4 cyl, but am getting 25 - 27 in town commute (surface streets, not freeway). If you looking for a great, comfortable car at a great price, this is it.

A great blend of performance, comfort, and reliability on a beautiful exterior package. The most fun new car I have ever owned.

We got a 2002 2.5 SL with ABS/side airbags, seat warmers, sunroof for $290 a month with $4000 down--a pretty good deal. We leased the car at Quirk, but also spent a lot of time at Frost. Frost was great, but they werent able to match the price at Quirk. So far (it has been almost a month), we are very pleased with the car. As the other reviews have mentioned, it really does turn heads. Its a peppy drive, and a great buy for the money.

The new Nissan Altima is an awesome family car. I have the 3.5SE which delivers power and performance. The interior is a bit scaled down to cheap plastic but the seating is comfortable and roomy. The bose stereo has a great sound. The trunk is roomy except for the trunk lid brackets which can get in the way. This is one of the best cars I have ever purchased. With a few after market add ons, it makes for a really hot car.

I have had my 02 3.5 Altima for almost a year, and I can honestly say I still have as much fun driving it now as when it was new. The Camry (which I sell for a living) doesnt even come close to the feel, and I love the attention I get while driving it. It was well worth the wait to find the 5spd. The road noise is a little higher than I like but the stereo more than makes up for it. Great car, but a built in radar detector previously mentioned by someone else wouldnt be a bad idea. Its easy to go well over the limit and not even know it.

I just got my Altima used and its been great so far. Its fast and great on gas. Ive been getting 30+ mpg average. Car handles great, looks awesome, but interier could be a little nicer, but isnt too bad.

I bought my 2002 V-6 Altima in mid- April, coming out of a 1995 Cadillac Seville SLS. There are only a couple of features that I miss, but otherwise have been totally happy with this car. Very fast, with great features. I can see why this was voted North Americas Car of the Year!

Purchased from a friend with approx 175000 in 06. She did a lot of interstate driving so the miles where high but the car was in great shape. The only major issue has been leaking valve cover gaskets, but nothing else of importance for the past 6 years (time weve owned it and previous owner) the car has an amazing amount of cabin space is very comfortable for me even in the back seats (Im 62") we average 27 to 29 mpg depending on how much in- town or highway driver.
