This Year's Model Updates:

The all-new third-generation 2002 Altima represents a total revision and rethinking of Nissan's midsize sedan -- it brings a level of design and performance that currently does not exist in its class. With a choice of a 240-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 or 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an all-new four-wheel independent suspension, the Altima offers spirit with state-of-the-art technology. An aggressive new exterior design with increases in all major dimensions and a driver-oriented interior with myriad convenience and luxury features set the Altima apart in the highly competitive sedan marketplace.

Pros:
  • Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, high level of features, distinct new shape.
Cons:
  • All-new design could mean first-year teething problems and dealer mark-up.

I bought my car two years ago. I was one of the first in my area to purchase the newly re-designed Altima and I was a little nervous at first.I didnt know what its track record would be. Well,I havent had any problems, and I love driving it! It looks good, rides well and hasnt required any repairs. I love this car!!!!

This was my last choice of car to check on my list of Honda, Passat, Toyota, Mazda, even BMW. I took a test drive & bought it! Incredible power in the engine! Drove a Suburban 7 yrs & was scared of a small car & no power. I got this car black & loaded with all the bells. Have 480 miles on it & people stop me all the time to say how cool the car looks. Im very happy & would recommend to anyone.

Beautiful body design, great power, turn circle is to way to large, cheap plastic interior, turns to easy (light steering) when you are up in speed.

The exterior styling and colors are outstanding! The Bose sound system, sunrf, ABS, Traction control and 3.5 engine performance are hard to beat for under $25k. The ride is comfortable but steering is a bit too light at higher speeds (80+). But lots of room (Im 64 1/2") with room to spare. Getting 26.5mpg which is great based on the speeds Ive been averaging!

This car was bought new in 2002. I loved the styling, room, and power. It seemed to be a a great value compared to Toyota and Honda. Then the recall notices started. One involved the crankshaft sensor. It seemed the car could lose power while driving at any speed. It shut down while on the interstate at 65 mph. Sheer panic!! I was lucky to make it off to the shoulder. The crankshaft sensor was replaced (2005). Just two weeks ago it went out again while pulling out across traffic. I was almost broadsided. We paid for this new sensor. Forget customer service, five unreturned calls and no help. This could have been a really good car, but it is dangerous. I am trading.

  • Great family car ! - 2002 Nissan Altima

Great car. After one year of use, only 4 visits to the dealer for oil changes and front tire alignement. With 2 small kids, moving the family is a lot of fun. Good cargo capacity, easy access to the back seats. Fuel economy is great at less than 8 liters/100 km on the highway (for speeds of 110km/h (2.5SE version)

  • Very Nice - 2002 Nissan Altima

Overall an outstanding mid-size car. 4 cylinder engine has excellent power. Handling is great - standard tires aweful. Upgrade and youll find a big benefit. Exterior is awesome. Interior provides excellent room(62"). A blast to drive and we drive the automatic!

  • My dream car exceeded expectations - 2002 Nissan Altima

Ive driven many different cars & minivans for 20 years. I drove an Altima once and found its handling superior to anything I knew - so when I went to buy my next car I had to try the new model Altima. Now almost two years later I still smile each time I get in it - it was the best decision Ive made in a long time. It still handles crisply, hugs the road on corners, brakes and accelerates responsively, is very roomy and comfortable - while looking and feeling sharp. The interior has maintained like new. This is an excellent car and a delight to drive - all distances and in all weathers. Not a single problem.

  • Im being realistic... - 2002 Nissan Altima

I love this car, but the faults of it really annoy me. The engine is the best in the world, hands down. Im even getting around 27MPG, which is excellent. That said, the interior and build quality is really the weak point. For a $16,000 car, its right on the mark. For a $22,000+ car that the 3.5 SE is, its seriously lacking. I love the whole layout/style of the interior. Its just that the materials are cheap, and the fit and finish suck. The car is a BLAST to drive though. Great fun, and sexy as hell!
