Overview & Reviews
The all-new third-generation 2002 Altima represents a total revision and rethinking of Nissan's midsize sedan -- it brings a level of design and performance that currently does not exist in its class. With a choice of a 240-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 or 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an all-new four-wheel independent suspension, the Altima offers spirit with state-of-the-art technology. An aggressive new exterior design with increases in all major dimensions and a driver-oriented interior with myriad convenience and luxury features set the Altima apart in the highly competitive sedan marketplace.
- Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, high level of features, distinct new shape.
- All-new design could mean first-year teething problems and dealer mark-up.

The Future is now - 2002 Nissan Altima
By bONES - September 15 - 12:03 amI has pleasantly surprised with the all I got for the same price as an 2001 Altima- I dont know how they do it. A large Sedan with power and quality of an Infinity at a price below Toyota Carmy.

A great value - 2002 Nissan Altima
By jsko - August 26 - 10:00 amAs a tall person, there is plenty of leg room for me and the person sitting in back of me. I traded in a 92 Camry for this. The new Camry does not have the legroom of the Altima. Love the design of the car. Lots of pickup for a 4 cylinder car. Getting 27-29 mpg highway.

Our Great Touring Car - 2002 Nissan Altima
By lazydazer - July 15 - 2:00 amWe have thoroughly enjoyed our travels in this vehicle. We use it for our longer travels and find it to be a very comfortable vehicle, very inexpensive to run with gas mileage over 30 MPG on the interstate. No maintenance problems, although Nissan has had a number of recalls for air bag modifications. These were scheduled with regular maintenance and did not interfere with vehicle use.

Velvet Is In All Year! - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Velvetisin - June 7 - 10:00 amI purchased my 2.5SL in October 01 (around the time it first came out). Took a test drive and was hooked. Its a beautiful car (Velvet Beige of course). Drives smoothly. Definitely an eyecatcher. Gets a lot of double takes. And the best part about it is -- I look good driving it!

Great car - 2002 Nissan Altima
By waynerb66 - April 14 - 5:26 amI bought this car with 59,000 kms on it in 2004. I now have 255,000 kms on it. I have never had anything major go wrong with it. I have replaced the rad, the alternator, the usual stuff, like ball joints and battery. Last year I did have to change some suspension parts. It was a lot of money, but it has a lot of mileage on it. So far it still has the same exhaust on it. It also has the original struts on the front. It doesnt burn oil. I change it regularly between 5000 and 7000 kms. It is starting to show signs of age though. I am having problems starting it. It still starts, it just takes a couple of cranks. Living in Canada, the salt is starting to take its toll also.

Altima 4 cylinder - 2002 Nissan Altima
By perry_1961 - March 7 - 10:00 amFun to drive.Very peppy for a four cylinder.Still love looking at it. Averaged 30MPG on my last trip out of town, with a.c. running and cruise set at 85. My only regret is the cheap looking interior.

Are you as confused as I am? - 2002 Nissan Altima
By DebZ - January 26 - 12:53 amIm confused by some of the reviews Ive read. I bought my 2002 Altima brand new and have not had one problem with it. Sure, there were a couple recalls, which were promptly and correctly fixed so it was no big deal. This car has been 100% reliable and a joy to drive. It looks like a much more expensive car (I was first attracted to it because it looks like a Lexus, without the hefty pricetag) and handles like a dream. My lease is up in a few months, and Im seriously thinking of getting another. Sorry some of you dont like yours, you must have been taken for a "ride".

Altima stole us away from Toyota - 2002 Nissan Altima
By RonB - January 24 - 10:00 amWeve been a big Toyota supporter, but The Altima SE stole us away from a Camry. At first my wife was pretty skeptical of test driving an Altima(she was thinking of the previous model years, bland!). She was pretty set on a Camry. That all changed after driving an ALtima. The exterior is no contest, Altima SE is far superior. Altima SE has 50 extra horses and is extremely quiet. The ride is very smooth and comfortable. Camry beats Altima for interior quality, but not by much. Good gas mileage(27 mpg), with the only down side using premium fuel. To sum it up, Superior looks, more power, more room, switched us to Nissan (Still love my Tacoma).
