Overview & Reviews
The all-new third-generation 2002 Altima represents a total revision and rethinking of Nissan's midsize sedan -- it brings a level of design and performance that currently does not exist in its class. With a choice of a 240-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 or 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an all-new four-wheel independent suspension, the Altima offers spirit with state-of-the-art technology. An aggressive new exterior design with increases in all major dimensions and a driver-oriented interior with myriad convenience and luxury features set the Altima apart in the highly competitive sedan marketplace.
- Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, high level of features, distinct new shape.
- All-new design could mean first-year teething problems and dealer mark-up.

Looks better than Lex gs400 - 2002 Nissan Altima
By lwoman - August 3 - 10:00 amGreat car. It looks better than the lexus Gs 300 and 400 although they do look quite similar. Altima has everything in its class beat. it looks much more expensive than what it is. I have had car since October and I have 14,000 miles on it. sure I drive alot but its fun to drive. the car is simply great. What a beauty. ALTIMA 2.5SL. pEOPLE CANNOT BELIEVE ITS NOT A LEXUS. pARK AN ALTIMA NEXT TO A Gs 300 or 400 and tell me which looks better. The is 300 dosent come close to the altima in s. Great car everyone should buy one. Nissan altima has the accord and camry beat this time. Go altima all the way. you are a beauty. simply the best

A WINNER - 2002 Nissan Altima
By dale ewasiuk - August 3 - 10:00 amThe Altima 2.5S is a very roomy and elegant car. Power is better than most other 4s that I have driven and gas milage is above average for a car this size. Even though the interior is plane, it is functional with controls in very good locations. Ride is very good and evey though I was told there would be a lot of wind noise, I have found that to be untrue. I have the Bose 6-disk system and the sound is far above average, controls for the systems are well thought out.

Serious Satisfaction - 2002 Nissan Altima
By gasman1 - July 8 - 8:56 pmVery enjoyable automobile. It may not be a BMW! Although its a great value for your dollar. I travel up to 1,250 miles per week. After more than 10K miles, its comfortable, responsive, quiet, and gets great gas mileage. Best MPG was 35.5, average is 31.5, worst was 23. Most of my miles are highway (very little city driving). Not one problem or trip to the dealership since the first oil change.

Reliable - 2002 Nissan Altima
By crotch666 - June 27 - 11:53 pmPurchased this car in 2009 for $6,000 and it has and probably will be one of the best cars I will ever have. The only time it ever broke down once on me was in 2015 when the alternator went out. That was a quick and easy fix, and it was back on the road in no-time. I maintenanced this car regularly and it definitely gave back to me. I was in 2 wrecks in it, I would considered mild to bad. Someone rear-ended me extremely hard and the damage to the car was minimal. The other one someone pulled out in front of me and I t-boned them. The bumper was destroyed, but that was it. The other car was totaled. Extremely safe car and very reliable. The gas mileage could be better, but I love this car regardless.

lacking quality that it should not be - 2002 Nissan Altima
By amcunn - May 31 - 3:16 amI bought this car brand new in 2002. I have had issues with the quality of exterior since day one. I had excessive wind noise on the dirver side come to find window stripping done incorrectly and now the door creaks when opening & closing. Door to gas tank, the hinge bent and the door has never worked properly and the dealer could have cared less. Brakes began squealing around 20,000 and have not stopped despite changing brake pads. Very disappointed with the quality of my first Nissan and I will go back to Honda for my next car.

What a car! - 2002 Nissan Altima
By J W - April 22 - 2:00 amUnder the guise of buying a "family sedan" I chose the Altima over the Accord and Camry because it blows those cars away in performance. I keep reading about how cheap the interior is but I strongly disagree. My interior is terrific, as is the sound system, and everything else about the car.

Lemon - 2002 Nissan Altima
By davidp - April 5 - 10:00 amTwo months into the second year of ownership, the car started to burn oil. Nissan replaced the engine block. Next, the clutch would not disengage. The car went to the shop and Nissan adjusted the clutch. This helped for about one month. Next, the car stranded my wife on the side of the interstate. Dealership towed the vehicle to their shop. They then replaced the Clutch master cylinder and seals. Now you can feel the bearings grinding through the clutch pedal. Today, the dealership will get the car back for more work. This car has been driven more by Nissan than by me or my wife. I intend on asking Nissan to replace the whole car.
