This Year's Model Updates:

The all-new third-generation 2002 Altima represents a total revision and rethinking of Nissan's midsize sedan -- it brings a level of design and performance that currently does not exist in its class. With a choice of a 240-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 or 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an all-new four-wheel independent suspension, the Altima offers spirit with state-of-the-art technology. An aggressive new exterior design with increases in all major dimensions and a driver-oriented interior with myriad convenience and luxury features set the Altima apart in the highly competitive sedan marketplace.

Pros:
  • Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, high level of features, distinct new shape.
Cons:
  • All-new design could mean first-year teething problems and dealer mark-up.

Many, many miles in a short time. Nothing like driving a sports car while paying sedan insurance!

This car is everything you could ask for. If you need performance then this car is ready to take you for a ride. It has plenty of room for 4 adults and their baggage for a trip and enough room for 5 adults for a night out. If you have children and dont want a van then this is the car.

I got this car the day I turned 16 with 119,000 miles on it. before purchasing the only thing I know was done was the head gasket was fixed. since then we have got new breaks! it sounds like I need new spark plugs due to the car shifting weird and freaking out when going up hills. other than that I wouldnt want another first car! I think as long as you maintain it well and dont go drifting and speed racing then this car is perfect. I have had the car for more than 1 year and it now has 123,000 miles on it and still loving it.

I love this car because it is sporty but yet still comfortable and has great pick-up speed. It is also very quiet.

  • Great car with just a few bugs - 2002 Nissan Altima

I purchased the car in August and had 2000 miles on it before Sept 1. Im up to 10500 miles and have had no reliability issues. This is the first real new car I have purchased, and Im very pleased with it. PLENTY of power, but torque steer is BAD. There would be a few things that could improve the car but most of them are minor. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a sedan with plenty of passing power (and long drives). Very comfortable interior (although cheap materials). It doesnt handle as well as a Lexus IS 300 but it is $5000-$7000 cheaper.

Ive had this car for almost 2 years now and Im still in love with it! It turns heads every where I go, and handles and drives great. The 2002 Altima 3.5 SE V6 : - Best Horsepower & Torque for its class - Most Room in its class - Nissan Reliability - Best Exterior for its class - Excellent Leather Interior - Super Quality BOSE sound system. Best price at John Elway Nissan (In less than 3 hours I was on my way out the door).

Interior ergonomics design is awful. E.g. dashboard is invisible from passenger site. CD panel is invisible under bright sun because of its angle to the driver. Cruise control doesnt work for speed over 90 mph. There was a problem with transmission when driver over 100 mph - it starts to shift randomly. During hot weather all dashboard guages died while car still ran - happend couple times.

It is a good looking car. We get many good compliments about it. Rides very smooth. Back seat is like riding on air. Front seat equally smooth. Lots of room front and back. Power to excel in passing, when needed. Gas milage is ok, but we might have done a little better had we opt to go with the 2.5 4 cycl, which would have taken the lower grade or gas consistently without a reduction in MPG. With the 3.5, 6 sycl, higher grade is recommended for better overall performance and MPG, but you can get by with a lower grade and use high grade every 3-4 fillups.

i feel that it is the best preforming car that i have owned. being a sedan its hard to believe that when you are driving that your in a family car and not a sports car. it has a classic style of the cars that was made in the 50s. over all a very nice car.
