This Year's Model Updates:

The all-new third-generation 2002 Altima represents a total revision and rethinking of Nissan's midsize sedan -- it brings a level of design and performance that currently does not exist in its class. With a choice of a 240-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 or 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an all-new four-wheel independent suspension, the Altima offers spirit with state-of-the-art technology. An aggressive new exterior design with increases in all major dimensions and a driver-oriented interior with myriad convenience and luxury features set the Altima apart in the highly competitive sedan marketplace.

Pros:
  • Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, high level of features, distinct new shape.
Cons:
  • All-new design could mean first-year teething problems and dealer mark-up.

  • A Big Disappointment - 2002 Nissan Altima

I was really looking forward to this car as a replacement for my 1995 Maxima, but I had to forget it. 1)The slight torque steer in my Maxima is absolutely outrageous in the Altima; driving this thing aggressively on anything but absolutely dry pavement would be suicide. 2) The interior material quality approaches a Yugo. Even the 3.5 liter has the worst interior quality ever. 3) The 3.5 has performance tires rims that fit snow tires - hello new rims and tires.

  • You dont need an SUV for leg room - 2002 Nissan Altima

This car is extremely spacious... It can hold up to six (small) peolple comfortably! It has a pretty big fuel tank so if your concerned about $$$ in gas-- this may not be for you. Its very sporty, stylish yet conservative and not too trendy. I plan on keeping this car for five years and then passing it on to my son when he gets in highschool. Highly recommended for all types of drivers.

Like many others, I have noticed the same shortcomings: excessive wind noise, poor interior quality, and some build/design issues. my rear drivers side door doesnt close easily, may be slightly off alignment, but havent taken it back to the dealer yet.

  • My Review - 2002 Nissan Altima

I got my 2002 Altima because my 2000 Altima was a lemon. The Dealership was great in working to buy back my car. The 2002 overall is just fair. I have an annoying rattling sound coming from dome light that I have to take back to the dealershio again (second time) to fix. The design of the exterior is beautiful. Renault (parent company) is showing its crappy history of not paying attention to build quality & detail.

  • Fun to drive and to own - 2002 Nissan Altima

When I first saw the new Altima, I knew I had to have one. Its so stylish that I thought immediately that it was a Lexus. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that it wasnt, and that it was instead a car that I could actually afford to own. The performance is out of this world!

  • Disappointed - 2002 Nissan Altima

Overall I have been disappointed with this vehicle. When it is running I would say it is a good car but I have had so many mechanical problems that I rarely get to see how fun it can be. At times it seems this car has been in the shop more than it has been on the road. I have had it die on me in rush hour traffic 4 times, had the struts and rotors replaced within a year of buying it, and now I have to replace the catalytic converter and header pipe. The shifter bezel has come apart on me for the third time and my headrest cover continues to come apart. I purchased this car thinking I would get a reliable car to get me to and from school and work but all it has done is let me down.

  • Dont Buy 02 Altima! - 2002 Nissan Altima

After 2 yrs, my car required a new Cat Converter. Now 42K miles later needs another Cat Converter and has engine problems-cost repair 5K - Nissan & Dealer 24mo/24K warranty on replacement-wont cover now. Although beautiful on the outside, this car is a LEMON. CD player skips when car hits bumps, car is noisey, Paint protector so thin scratches easily, quality tire style limited and difficult to find must buy thru dealer. Battery died, shorted out radio, Southlake dealership said replacement cost $2500. Another dealer pulled radio and replaced back fuse for $20. Dont buy this car! Wont last financing term. 1) Bad Motor; powertrain; paint durability; noisey; tires; sound system overall=LEMON!

  • You need to own one too... - 2002 Nissan Altima

I just got the car a couple days ago, silver with grey leather, moonroof, splash guards, spoiler, etc.... Always drove SUVs took my Dads suggestion to test drive one and boy and I am glad that I did. This car is comfortable, looks great and gets awesome gas mileage. I love the smooth ride of this car while using the Bose in dash 6 cd- changer (sound system sounds sooooo good!!!) Great car, extremely happy with my purchase.

  • Ultima 2002/2003 - 2002 Nissan Altima
    By -

I am a first time Nissan owner. I have always purchased Hondas in the past. I have enjoyed the drive on the new Ultima. Its handling is great, I like that it has more power considering its a 4 cylinder vehicle. I bought it for its sleek new lines and of course the color. Its definitely a fun drive on the open road.
