Overview & Reviews
The all-new third-generation 2002 Altima represents a total revision and rethinking of Nissan's midsize sedan -- it brings a level of design and performance that currently does not exist in its class. With a choice of a 240-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 or 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an all-new four-wheel independent suspension, the Altima offers spirit with state-of-the-art technology. An aggressive new exterior design with increases in all major dimensions and a driver-oriented interior with myriad convenience and luxury features set the Altima apart in the highly competitive sedan marketplace.
- Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, high level of features, distinct new shape.
- All-new design could mean first-year teething problems and dealer mark-up.

Save yourself the aggravation - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Dont Buy It - February 18 - 10:00 amA new car shouldnt have this many issues. 1)When it snows, this car slips and slides everywhere. (Its also bad in the rain.) 2) The tires make this horrible *loud* noise, especially around 60-70 mph. 3) Ive been stranded at least 5 times because the car doesnt always start in the cold. 4)The window doesnt always close if the temp is over 90 degrees. 5)The rearview mirror dimmer failed and had to be replaced. 6)My airbag light is flashing - and even though I brought it to the dealer, I only found out by reading other reviews here that it was a recall! 7)When you fill the gas tank, the gas sloshes back and forth whenever you stop or turn.

Outstanding - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Tarzan - February 16 - 10:00 amThis is the most wonderfull car i never had. Since 1 bought it may 2002, i had No problems. The car is very fast, lost of style and very well equiped for the price. Its is a sport sedan that beats up very easly, the Honda accord, pontiac Grand Am, Grand prix GT, toyota camry and others.

A solid car with its own Achilles heel(s) - 2002 Nissan Altima
By kismet1113 - February 10 - 5:17 amMy 02 Altima has over 200,000 miles on it with little more than normal repairs. Like most Altimas my crankshaft sensor failed around 150k miles. The frame of the car is 100% rust free, except for the floor panels right under the drivers side and passenger side front seats. This again is a common failure with these cars. My radiator started leaking around 150k miles and having to jack the front end of the car up 20" or so off the ground to work the air out of the lines is very annoying, but manageable. At the end of the day I have over 200k miles on the car and have yet to run into repairs I couldnt do myself...and for a woman I cant complain about that.

beautiful car! - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Marty Ball - February 9 - 2:00 amI cant seem to keep the miles down on it because it is so reliable, comfortable and economical. The handling and the brakes arent the best in the S model, but the little 2.5 four literally flies down the road just fine. Lots of front seat, rear seat and trunk room. I got lots of compliments when it was the only one around last year.

02 Altima - 2002 Nissan Altima
By wm - February 9 - 2:00 amGreat car, superior handling, more fun to drive than the Camry (I know, we have one), and looks way better than the new 4-door Accord... although 2- door Accord does look good (but isnt a fair comparison).

Buying 2002 Altima - BIG MISTAKE! - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Jewels83617 - February 7 - 10:00 amI have had this car towed 3x and in the shop 6x all for failure to start but told that it was a different cause each time. Ive had the throttle body replaced, parking sensor replaced, 3 recalls fixed, and the alarm system taken out all because they were blamed for failure to start (this all happened in the first 7 mos of ownership, bought brand new). I have since taken it in 2x for failure to start and they blame us by saying that we flooded it, as far as I know these kind of cars cant flood. I knew after my Sentra not to buy Nissan again but this time I really learned my lesson, what a waste of my money and time!
