This Year's Model Updates:

The all-new third-generation 2002 Altima represents a total revision and rethinking of Nissan's midsize sedan -- it brings a level of design and performance that currently does not exist in its class. With a choice of a 240-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 or 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an all-new four-wheel independent suspension, the Altima offers spirit with state-of-the-art technology. An aggressive new exterior design with increases in all major dimensions and a driver-oriented interior with myriad convenience and luxury features set the Altima apart in the highly competitive sedan marketplace.

Pros:
  • Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, high level of features, distinct new shape.
Cons:
  • All-new design could mean first-year teething problems and dealer mark-up.

I have a problem with a thump in the front end of the car. Nissan will do nothing about this and said all standards do this. Problem was not there when car was purchased. Started about 300 miles into the car.

I have had my car for 6 months and I love it. I love the performance I get from it. Even on a 4 cylender this car picks up speed fast.

This car is great. It is fun to drive my only complaint is that my brakes are making a squeeking on occasion but otherwise this car is great. It has more standard horsepower than any full size vehicle under 30$cdn. Thank you for your time Shaan

  • Excellent car, 144,000 miles - 2002 Nissan Altima

Bought this car in Dec 01 when new styling came out. 3.5 engine very powerful. Only had minor issues (light bulb for miles display went out early on) some recalls initially. Again nothing major. At 144K, windshield wipers stopped working and I spent $200 to get fixed. Now it is leaking antifreeze and given I need new tires and new battery I decided to trade it in. Definitely worked out well for me though.

Purchased my Altima with 75K miles, it now has 191K miles. Nothing really major that I can complain about, its taken my abuse very well. My CONS would be: Cam Shaft sensor failed around 150K miles. Both rear calipers seized around 100K miles. #4 cylinder ignition coil failed around 175K miles. BOSE CD changer is completely unreliable. Pop out gasoline door is horrendous, I need to use a prybar to get it open. Around 150K miles the car started having intermittent difficulties with engine starts...takes 10-15 seconds to start. Mechanic doesnt have a good solution to the problem. Door actuators seize when its cold out.

Love it! Even the 4 cyl. engine delivers awesome power- same horsepower as other 6 cyl. such as Accord and Camry. I was a die hard Honda fan until I drove this car. And talk about being the center of attention . . . . Easy on the wallet too- insurance only increased slightly and its a lot of car for the money. Since I have an 11 month old, the interior room and trunk space is significant-- backseat seems bigger and more comfortable than 2000 Accord. Ive always been a "wait and see" person when it comes to a new make/model, but dont worry about this one-- go for it! No bugs.

  • Fun to drive and even better to look at! - 2002 Nissan Altima

Ive had this car for a almost four months now and Im still in love with it! It turns heads every where I go, and handles and drives great. Cant tell you how many people have stopped me and asked questions about the car and made comments about how great it looks and that they want one. I also love passing BMWs on the road. I also see more of them on the road everytime Im out driving.

After buying my 98 accord ex coupe, I thought I would be lifetime Honda owner. That was until I saw the Altima. For a 4 cyl, it has plenty of power. I love the tail lights, probably the main reason I bought the car. This car is BMW in the front, Passat from the side, and Lexus in the rear.
