This Year's Model Updates:

The all-new third-generation 2002 Altima represents a total revision and rethinking of Nissan's midsize sedan -- it brings a level of design and performance that currently does not exist in its class. With a choice of a 240-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 or 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an all-new four-wheel independent suspension, the Altima offers spirit with state-of-the-art technology. An aggressive new exterior design with increases in all major dimensions and a driver-oriented interior with myriad convenience and luxury features set the Altima apart in the highly competitive sedan marketplace.

Pros:
  • Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, high level of features, distinct new shape.
Cons:
  • All-new design could mean first-year teething problems and dealer mark-up.

  • Loved it, but time to move on? - 2002 Nissan Altima

I bought this car used from a rental company about 5 years ago. It had 37,000 miles and I am very near 110,000 now. Most expensive repair was window switch which was less than $100.00. Just had to replace the sending unit to the transmission yesterday and my mechanic said not to expect more than 25,000 - 30,000 more miles before needing a new transmission. Now trying to decide if I should sell it or spend the $2500 - $3000 on the transmission and hope it lasts me a few more years. Overall this car has been very reliable and I love it. Hope I can find a reliable newer one as my next car!

  • Great Car - 2002 Nissan Altima

I love this car! The engine is superb...much less sluggish than the comparable Honda or Toyota V6. It handles very well and is great entering a highway from a long, looping, entrance ramp. My only complaint is that there is a fair amount of wind noise in the cabin, but not so much that it detracts from the driving experience

  • My Altima 3.5 SE - 2002 Nissan Altima

Have had my Altima 3.5 SE for 2 weeks. Pros: Performance, Exterior(Ive had at least 8 total strangers compliment my car..3 of whom thought it was a Lexus), Interior (huge, luxurious & nice in black). Cons: Large turning radius, slightly noiser & roughier ride than Camry/Accord, Some cheap plastic Overall...great, livable car for the commute/family with awesome power & fun to drive aspects....Now I just have to worry about tickets...

  • Very Happy ! - 2002 Nissan Altima

I bought this car in November and have put about 8000 miles on so far, including a 2000 mile trip. I fell in love with the styling at first site and ended up getting an SL with most options. I have no complaints and I get unsolicited compliments about the car from complete strangers almost every week. This model is not a sports car, and does not perform like one, but even the 2.5 is more than adequate for me. I love it !

I have always liked altimas since they first came out, but this altima beats them all!

  • Is it just looks? - 2002 Nissan Altima

Altima 2002 is a good car and fun to drive but has a couple of problems: My brakes dont work properly and there is air in them but dealership says that is "the nature of the beast". Only showed up after 10,000 miles. The interior seats and consoles have been adjusted couple of times becasue they were not well put together. It is fun to drive and nice looking but PLEASE watch for the problem in your brakes!!!

  • THIS IS IT!!! - 2002 Nissan Altima

I have driven a Toyota since 1984, and assumed that I would always remain Toyota loyal. My son kept talking about this new Altima, so i went on the internet and did my homework. I found out that the Altima beat out the Avalon on everything but weight (it was almost 300 pounds heaver). So off I went to see what all the fuss was about. From the moment I test drove the car, I was in love!! This car has as much room as my 1996 Avalon had, but with all the bells and whistles. All I can say is please start a savings account, because youre going to need it. On my first day out, I looked down at the odometer, and I was doing a smooth 80 mph! All I can say is go for it.

  • Very Nice Car - 2002 Nissan Altima

Have had this car over a year now, it has been wonderful. Only problem was a sensor for the air conditioner last summer, but that was covered by warranty. Standard maintenance is a bit pricey using Nissans guidelines (which I suggest that you do), but that comes with any vehicle. Opted for the 5 speed manual, which is comfortable and provides more pop to the I4 engine. Plenty of "giddyupandgo"! Abundance of interior room (the main reason we bought this car instead of the Sonata, Taurus, et al). Some of the interior features are cheap... the fuel fill release on the floor looks like an after thought. Some minor squeeks which are unexplained.

  • Great Buy!!! - 2002 Nissan Altima

2002 Altima, is a maintenance free car, driving 100 miles per day in highways, just change oil every 3K miles and add some coolant fluid, that is all the maintenance needed. Nothing compares very strong engine with tires even better!!
