Overview & Reviews
The all-new third-generation 2002 Altima represents a total revision and rethinking of Nissan's midsize sedan -- it brings a level of design and performance that currently does not exist in its class. With a choice of a 240-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 or 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an all-new four-wheel independent suspension, the Altima offers spirit with state-of-the-art technology. An aggressive new exterior design with increases in all major dimensions and a driver-oriented interior with myriad convenience and luxury features set the Altima apart in the highly competitive sedan marketplace.
- Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, high level of features, distinct new shape.
- All-new design could mean first-year teething problems and dealer mark-up.

Unbelievable! - 2002 Nissan Altima
By shaqintyre - April 11 - 10:00 amI fell in love with the appearance of this vehicle months before it was available. As soon as I test drove one, I knew I had to purchase it. Every one of my friends has an Accord, Camry, etc. But I wanted something different and much more exciting. VALUE, ROOM, SPEED, GAS MILEAGE, & GOOD LOOKS, this car definitely has it all!

Excessive noise in Altima 3.5S - 2002 Nissan Altima
By crypton - April 2 - 4:40 pmI own 3.5SE 5-speed manual Altima for two weeks and I really enjoy it’s performance. However, I had to visit dealership two times due to excessive noise problem coming from back suspension. It is some kind of rolling-metallic-hollow noise, sometimes reminding kicked-basketball sound. It occurs at any speed and its frequency is not related to speed - just the volume which peaks at around 90km/h resonating and piercing ears. Dealership so far was not able to fix this problem

Lost that lovin feeling - 2002 Nissan Altima
By BassHz - March 14 - 4:03 pmthe 2002 Nissan Altima is definately worth a test drive. This car majors in straight line acceleration and looks sweet from the rear. These are the two main reasons that I bought it. I thought Id get over the things I didnt like...odd looking grill/front end, cheapish interior materials, front-end wheel gap, mediocre handling despite a punishing suspension, wind noise... The newness has worn off and Im ready to trade but Im finding it hard to match the Altimas overall bang for the buck. Nissan built one heck of an engine and the car has gobs of space in the cabin and trunk. Id put it up against any 4-door car under $35,000.

This is one AWESOME vehicle - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Leena - February 28 - 10:00 amI bought a Nissan Altima after owning 3 different SUVs, all 6 cyl. This 4 cyl. Altima outruns everyone of them and they were some pretty expensive SUVs, we are not talking Rodeos here. This vehicle made it to Disneyland, CA from Las Vegas, NV in a little over 3 hours! Incredible.

2002 Nissan Altima 3.5SE - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Levicki - February 23 - 10:00 amExcellent power, lots of room front and back for folks over 6 feet tall. I am 64" and have plenty of room even behind the drivers seat with the seat positioned for me to drive. Great visibility, good handling. Would handle better if RWD or AWD. Cup holders are not real convenient. Turning radius is not tight. Guages are hard to read in certain lights.

Great value for a used car - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Mark in Texas - January 13 - 10:00 amI was very surprised with the torque of the 3.5L v-6 w/ the 5 speed manual trans. it is really fun to drive, but it is hard to keep it under 80 on the fwy as I commute 60 mi. per day I am getting about 26 mpg and that is not being gentle with the accelerator either. Great car!

So far so Good - 2002 Nissan Altima
By figgi01 - December 30 - 2:00 amSo far I think I made a good purchase. The power is good for a I4, the interior room is great, the standard sound system actually uses Clarion speakers but wish the reciever wasnt so oddly shapped so it could be replaced with an aftermaket. Squeaks and rattles are my main concern with the car. The front suspension makes a squeaking noise when stopping down a hill and the rear suspension seems to rattle over bumpy roads. We will see how it holds up in the long run.
