Overview & Reviews
The all-new third-generation 2002 Altima represents a total revision and rethinking of Nissan's midsize sedan -- it brings a level of design and performance that currently does not exist in its class. With a choice of a 240-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 or 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an all-new four-wheel independent suspension, the Altima offers spirit with state-of-the-art technology. An aggressive new exterior design with increases in all major dimensions and a driver-oriented interior with myriad convenience and luxury features set the Altima apart in the highly competitive sedan marketplace.
- Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, high level of features, distinct new shape.
- All-new design could mean first-year teething problems and dealer mark-up.

Had it for 5 years, still love it. - 2002 Nissan Altima
By chris - May 29 - 6:10 pmIm this cars first owner, and all Ive ever had to do was change a battery. Incredible reliability, a fun drive with great cornering, a sharp look (this was the first model year with the redesign), value. This was the first car I bought on my own and it was a solid purchase. I didnt get many fancy options (cloth interior, vinyl) but it still looks quite nice inside.

A Satisfied Customer - 2002 Nissan Altima
By genius163 - May 21 - 10:00 amIn general, I am very pleased with the performance of my 02 Altima. I have already put almost 80k miles on it, mostly due to commuting in Los Angeles traffic. I have had only one repair that wasnt due to maintenance. One year ago, after a long road trip in the middle of the summer, the oxygen sensor needed replacing. I dont know if the trip had anything to do with it.

The Mac Daddy of Family Cars - 2002 Nissan Altima
By lghtskndymnla - May 15 - 10:00 amNissan out did theirselves when the re- designed the Altima. The performance is excellent, Braking distance is outstanding, fuel economy could be better but is still better than that on the Accord. You get alot of great features for the money unlike Camry and Accord. This vehicle is fun to drive and can hold up to alot of daily driving abuse. THe only Problem I have is the shift boot that keeps coming aloose during swift shifting action.

Good, but needs design improvements - 2002 Nissan Altima
By jkl458 - May 15 - 10:00 amOverall good car for the money, especially compared to others in class. Rides really well overall, but feels a little big around fast corners. Exterior design very nice, but interior needs improvement with materials, ie flimsy and too much plastic. Biggest issue is $8 headlight bulb burning out and not being able to fix it myself: Was quoted $120 by dealer because of labor involved. This is to fix a simple light bulb!

A blast! - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Mark Mayes - May 2 - 10:00 amLoved the abdundance of thrust and power throughout the rev range. The engine was sweet. The torque steer was kind of scarey though especially when the roads were damp and one had to tred lightly as a result. The manual stick was vague and made rowing the gearbox somewhat a chore and I had trouble making smooth changes .The build quality was chintzy and cheap especially the interior with the manual boot and cup holder needing replacement before 8000miles. At 9000miles the clutch gave out and needed replacement.
