This Year's Model Updates:

All Altimas receives exterior styling enhancements, including new smoked headlamps and taillights, new wheel designs and a restyled front fascia and grille, along with a much needed interior redesign. The 3.5-liter V6 gets five more horsepower and three more lb-ft of torque, for a total of 250 and 249, respectively, and is now available with a five-speed automatic transmission. A new performance-oriented SE-R model joins the lineup along with a leather-lined 3.5 SL model. A newly optional DVD-based navigation system and two new exterior colors round out the changes.

Pros:
  • Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, excellent handling, roomy and comfortable interior, high level of features, distinctive styling.
Cons:
  • Considerable road noise, overboosted steering, no stability control, ABS still an extra-cost option.

  • NOT AS GOOD AS A CAMRY... - 2005 Nissan Altima
    By -

Made a mistake buying this vehicle. I like the the exterior design. After 2 months, thats about it! The comfort level is beginning to fade and other things cannot compare to the Toyota Camry, which my wife has. The leather seats/padding are cheap hard leather. Compared to the plusher leather of the Toyota Camry. The more I drive the Altima, the more discomfort I am experiencing. As a previous review noted, the BOSE is dissapointing in sound quality. The dail controls are outdated as well. I am already selling this mistake. Sadly, the resale value, and response is a BIG FAT zero! I may trade it for a Toyota Camry soon! I will NEVER BUY a Nissan product again

  • Bad Gas Mileage, Quality, + Depreciation - 2005 Nissan Altima
    By -

I cant stress it enough, horrible gas mileage. Much lower than what is displayed on the sticker. Brakes lock up too easily causing unsafe conditions. Poor handling in wet and snowy weather. Gas door latch doesnt work very well and fails to open. Notice the amount of these doors bent open or taken off of Altimas on the road. I only noticed it after mine started not opening. Funny, no recall. Nissan must not be taking responsibility for design flaws. People are prying them open to get gas into the tank. Seating is uncomfortable during long trips. Premature Rusting. Trim popping off for no reason. Again, no recall. Poor Warranty. 36 mo. Bumper to bumper, think again. Overall quality is poor.

  • Pretty from the outside ugly in the insi - 2005 Nissan Altima

Well let start off by saying that this car is a very nice lookin one and I could have not been any happier to buy the car. As long as I can remember when I first saw it..I was like "wow I have to get one of those!!" But now that I own one; its so different from what I really thought it was ......to what it really is. Not only this car made so cheap from the inside and but it also cheap from the outside. Our top of the line "Bose" radio hasnt been working right. Our car has shut off completely while we are driving on the road. Has Nissan fixed it? Ya like 5 times. But guess what it still happens. Many our car was just one bad apple. I should have stuck with Honda.

  • Ill ready to SELL... - 2005 Nissan Altima
    By -

...my BRAND NEW Altima w/ the power and BOSE package. It was a mistake saving a few dollars. I should of bought a Toyota Camry, like I wanted originally. The body lines of the Altima is nicer, in my opinion. Thats about it! After about 3 weeks, Im sick of this Altima! NO power seat for the passenger seat. Camry has power seat for the passenger. Dail controls are out of date. The horn sound on the keyless entry system reminds me of Cheap domestic cars! Engine sounds kinda loud when you step on the accelerator. The BOSE audio system on my Altima has the worst sound that Ive ever listen too on a car audio system. The window fogs, if you dont have the AC on.

  • The last Nissan I will ever own. - 2005 Nissan Altima
    By -

I bought my Nissan Altima new, and it has been a big burden. I had the car for a month when the transmission went out. I wish I was joking. The dealership took care of the problem pretty promptly. The Cam-shaft sensors went out, so the car would just stop on me at a low rates of speed. As one could imagine, it was not very safe due to that reason. I have had to replace 3 alternators. 3 of them!!!!!! I have had to replace all the motor mounts & the breaks way too often. After a year, I never felt safe in taking the Altima out of town.

  • Buyer Beware!!!!!! - 2005 Nissan Altima

Be careful about the reviews, this car starts giving you ALOT of trouble about the third year, crank shift sensor replaced THREE TIMES, fuel pump replaced in 2008 and again this week in 2009. Rotors went on back brakes at 42,000 miles. Two sets of tires. From what I have read this has happened to many owners of the Altima. This car is a major lemon! This was my first and last Nissan. I am trading it in this weekend as from what I read the catalytic converter and transmission are the next to go.

  • AVOID THE 2.5L, Youll love the 3.5L - 2005 Nissan Altima
    By -

Nissan quality has went down hill since the 90s. The 2002 -2005 2.5L commonly has the head gasket go bad, before 100k miles. Mine went at 98k miles. If you pay someone it will cost you $1,600. Also it is possible that the forward catalytic converter will go bad, blow debris into your cylinders, and ruin them. WIth cloth seats, the drivers seat is rock hard. The seat doesnt support my thighs, causes pain. The Altima is supposed to ride stiffer and sportier than other cars, but on a really bumpy road it is just torture. The throttle is touchy it just lurches forward in stop and go traffic, I have to put the automatic into 1st or 2nd so I dont get whiplash. Wind noise on sunroof.

  • Not so good - 2005 Nissan Altima
    By -

Ill admit, I love the body design. After driving for about 3 months. The comfort & the details is failing to impress me. 1. No power passenger seat 2. Outdated dail type controls 3. Cant read the clock and radio display when bright sunny day 4. No day time running lights 5. Weak and lousy sound quality for a BOSE system 6. Still uses metal rod prop to keep the hood open 7. Climate / heat system keeps the front window foggy if the A/C is not on 8. Leather seats quality are worse than that of a cheap domestic vehicle 9. The horn sounding, when you activate the security system drives me nuts 10. NO resale value!

  • Good turned bad - 2005 Nissan Altima
    By -

I bought the 2.5 S in a 5 speed manual and loved it at first. Then I started having clutch problems. The clutch would suck itself to the floor. Yet no problem found when taken in. After warranty was up my engine blew. Turns out I had a faulty oil pump. other mechanic fixed my car AND my clutch. Have to put in 3 qts of oil a month because it is burning oil so bad. Yet no recalls. called nissan directly and they were no help. 2004 and 2006 has a recall for the same problem. Car has a problem starting which is also a recall on the 2004s. So disappointed. Will never buy Nissan again. Trading car for a Camry

  • Bad Altima Experience!!!!! - 2005 Nissan Altima
    By -

Buyers Beware!!! I purchased a 2003 & was a lemon. (Radiator replaced 4 times in first year but kept leaking anti freeze) Nissan gave me a 2005 (at no extra cost)because they felt bad. My 2005 has less than 5000 miles and my radiator is again leaking antifreeze. (they claim its the radiator cap). Has anyone else experienced this problem?
