Overview & Reviews
The all-new third-generation 2002 Altima represents a total revision and rethinking of Nissan's midsize sedan -- it brings a level of design and performance that currently does not exist in its class. With a choice of a 240-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 or 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an all-new four-wheel independent suspension, the Altima offers spirit with state-of-the-art technology. An aggressive new exterior design with increases in all major dimensions and a driver-oriented interior with myriad convenience and luxury features set the Altima apart in the highly competitive sedan marketplace.
- Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, high level of features, distinct new shape.
- All-new design could mean first-year teething problems and dealer mark-up.

Manufactuing defect. - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Carl Carlson - November 8 - 7:03 amMy wife and I really enjoyed our Altima, we had 92000 on it and planed on another 100000. But to our dismay we found that the passenger floor board had nearly completely rusted out, shades of the 50s. It was so bad that when you put your hand on it it felt like a sponge. The dealer and the company did not care about this and would do noting that had to be a manufacturing defect. We will never buy another car from that dealer or company. We have bought a 2009 Mazda6 and love it.

awesome family car - 2002 Nissan Altima
By turbogirl - October 31 - 10:00 amThe new Nissan Altima is an awesome family car. I have the 3.5SE which delivers power and performance. The interior is a bit scaled down to cheap plastic but the seating is comfortable and roomy. The bose stereo has a great sound. The trunk is roomy except for the trunk lid brackets which can get in the way. This is one of the best cars I have ever purchased. With a few after market add ons, it makes for a really hot car.

Stay away from thw 2002 Altima - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Gone Driving - October 27 - 10:00 amThe car is just shy of 2 years old and has had a new catalytic converter, radiator, engine mount, heater core and ABS sensor. It has ongoing problems with vibration and wind noise which have still not been corrected . There is rust on one of the engine brackets which according to Nissan has no metal in it. The car had starting problems. The brakes have no power assist in very cold weather for the first minute or two after starting the car. Unfortunately all the excitement that I had when I bought this car has turned into lack of confidence in Nissan Products.

Fast, Fun, and Sexy - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Beaz - October 25 - 10:00 amI have had my 02 3.5 Altima for almost a year, and I can honestly say I still have as much fun driving it now as when it was new. The Camry (which I sell for a living) doesnt even come close to the feel, and I love the attention I get while driving it. It was well worth the wait to find the 5spd. The road noise is a little higher than I like but the stereo more than makes up for it. Great car, but a built in radar detector previously mentioned by someone else wouldnt be a bad idea. Its easy to go well over the limit and not even know it.

AWESOME Car - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Kenny D - October 25 - 10:00 amI havent bought an Altima yet but have rented several of the 4 cylinder automatics from Budget and I have to say that I will be buying one soon. I have never considered a 4 cylinder before but after experiencing this 4 cylinder Im not even interested in the V6 anymore. VERY fast, handles great and good on gas. I cruised several times from LA to San Fran at 85mph with the A/C and cruise going and it still had power to spare. I would buy one in a heartbeat (and will!!)

What a Bang for the Buck - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Knav - October 21 - 10:00 amMy parents just bought me this car for my first vehicle and its a blast. Its a bullet when accelerating, quite when crusiing, and has a sweet tune when the engine is revved. Its faster than my dads V8 sedan and my brothers sports car. I couldnt have asked for a better car.

Never Buy a Nissan Again - 2002 Nissan Altima
By kevin from Rochester - October 16 - 10:00 amhave had for almost 3 years now. Lots of recalls, interior road noise, gas from fuel tank sloshes around while cornering, turning radius is horrible, breaks went at 28 K. (not turable rotors so it cost me around $400). Slippery in the snow and when wet, interior fogging is the worst I have even experienced. Has been like an American car, will not buy a nissan again

Totally happy! - 2002 Nissan Altima
By landandseaciar - September 12 - 10:00 amI bought my 2002 V-6 Altima in mid- April, coming out of a 1995 Cadillac Seville SLS. There are only a couple of features that I miss, but otherwise have been totally happy with this car. Very fast, with great features. I can see why this was voted North Americas Car of the Year!
