This Year's Model Updates:

The all-new third-generation 2002 Altima represents a total revision and rethinking of Nissan's midsize sedan -- it brings a level of design and performance that currently does not exist in its class. With a choice of a 240-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 or 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an all-new four-wheel independent suspension, the Altima offers spirit with state-of-the-art technology. An aggressive new exterior design with increases in all major dimensions and a driver-oriented interior with myriad convenience and luxury features set the Altima apart in the highly competitive sedan marketplace.

Pros:
  • Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, high level of features, distinct new shape.
Cons:
  • All-new design could mean first-year teething problems and dealer mark-up.

  • Are you as confused as I am? - 2002 Nissan Altima
    By -

Im confused by some of the reviews Ive read. I bought my 2002 Altima brand new and have not had one problem with it. Sure, there were a couple recalls, which were promptly and correctly fixed so it was no big deal. This car has been 100% reliable and a joy to drive. It looks like a much more expensive car (I was first attracted to it because it looks like a Lexus, without the hefty pricetag) and handles like a dream. My lease is up in a few months, and Im seriously thinking of getting another. Sorry some of you dont like yours, you must have been taken for a "ride".

This has been a great car. Infinity performance and looks for a lot less. The V6 is incredibly smooth and powerful. Looks great, dual chrome exhaust, 17-inch wheels and sport suspension! Important to note, was T- boned and spun through an intersection 3-months after purchase (individual ran red-light), safety features, airbags performed admirably and walked away from accident. Great car!

  • Altima stole us away from Toyota - 2002 Nissan Altima

Weve been a big Toyota supporter, but The Altima SE stole us away from a Camry. At first my wife was pretty skeptical of test driving an Altima(she was thinking of the previous model years, bland!). She was pretty set on a Camry. That all changed after driving an ALtima. The exterior is no contest, Altima SE is far superior. Altima SE has 50 extra horses and is extremely quiet. The ride is very smooth and comfortable. Camry beats Altima for interior quality, but not by much. Good gas mileage(27 mpg), with the only down side using premium fuel. To sum it up, Superior looks, more power, more room, switched us to Nissan (Still love my Tacoma).

  • Good car for the price - 2002 Nissan Altima

Have had my Altima almost 2 years now. I paid $17,000 brand new. For that price I got a really good car. I upgraded to a stiffer rear sway bar and 18" rims and a nice tint, and I have a really sweet ride! It handles great and I like the look of the exterior. The interior is okay, though some of the dash pieces are hard plastic and my shift boot fell apart. There is tons of room, so you get a sporty look with lots of room! I recommend this car, especially the new 2005 with its redesigned interior.

  • Happy Deal - 2002 Nissan Altima

I purchased my 2.5S Altima in June and I am very happy. Lot of power for a 4 cyl. car. The has a plenty of enterior space, lots of trunk space. I am impressed with base stereo that it came with. The upholstery could be a little better...but you cant get everything for under 20K. I got a great deal through the internet.

  • Altima - 2002 Gold - 2002 Nissan Altima

I have owned Nissans for years including a 96 Altima. This one is great! Very roomy, more than my Maxima, especially in the back seat. A little under powered with the 4 cyl, but am getting 25 - 27 in town commute (surface streets, not freeway). If you looking for a great, comfortable car at a great price, this is it.

A great blend of performance, comfort, and reliability on a beautiful exterior package. The most fun new car I have ever owned.

  • Very Happy! - 2002 Nissan Altima

We got a 2002 2.5 SL with ABS/side airbags, seat warmers, sunroof for $290 a month with $4000 down--a pretty good deal. We leased the car at Quirk, but also spent a lot of time at Frost. Frost was great, but they werent able to match the price at Quirk. So far (it has been almost a month), we are very pleased with the car. As the other reviews have mentioned, it really does turn heads. Its a peppy drive, and a great buy for the money.

  • Really Good Car - 2002 Nissan Altima
    By -

The Altima is a really good all-around car. Its huge and has lots of space, has a really big trunk, has one of the best car stereos ever (BOSE system), and possesses an insane motor. Rear seat room rivals that of larger cars. The only problem is build quality. There’s no denying the fact that it is bad. Wood texture on dash is so hideous that I had it removed. There is a massive amount of noise in the interior. If you drive on a wet road, it sounds like you are driving in a swimming pool. The car pings. To solve this problem, I drive really fast and accelerate a lot so that the noise of the engine cancels out the interior squeaks ;-)
