This Year's Model Updates:

The Altima's winning formula continues with few changes. Smoke is a new exterior color choice, and four-cylinder models meet stricter federal emissions standards. Models with California emissions are now classified as Partial Zero Emissions Vehicles (PZEV).

Pros:
  • Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, excellent handling, roomy and comfortable interior, high level of features, distinct styling.
Cons:
  • Low-grade interior materials, considerable road noise, overboosted steering, no stability control.

I just bought this car the other day and I love everthing about it. I had a 1994 Altima and never had a moments trouble. I just needed to upgrade.

I was debating between the Civic and the Altima, and the Altima ultimately won. Ive only driven my Altima for a week, but Ive had a ton of fun doing so. My only complaint is that the interior materials are pretty crappy and the lighter colors make it look like its constructed of PC casings. I decided on the black interior, so this shortcoming is not as noticeable. I cant comment on the road noise issue because I always have the radio/CD blasting.

  • Not Happy! - 2004 Nissan Altima

I bought a 2004 Nissan Altima in June of 2005. September of 05 the fuel pump went out on it and was supposedly fixed and covered under my warranty. My car had to be towed to the dealership. In May of 06, I had a transmission fluid leak which took 4 trips into the dealership for them to find exactly where the leak was. This was also covered under my warranty. Now, 1 1/2 weeks ago, my car failed to start again. Once the dealership checked it out, they stated it was the crank position sensor. This is not covered by my warranty and its going to cost us $140. I am so unhappy with Nissan and have called the Nissan customer service to request they pay for the problem, they wont return my calls.

My wife and I have an 04 and an 05, both 2.5S models. The 05 has held up pretty good so far, only having to replace an O2 sensor but the 04 is rubbish. Brakes are bad and need replaced often, had an O2 replaced, radiator/AC fans, rotors, rattles and noises. There is a rattle coming from the engine compartment. Check engine just came back on, again. Code P0420, catalytic converter. Warranty goes out after 80K on cat convts and after that youre on your own. $950 to fix +engine may be compromised. I really like the car when its parked. Im scared to drive it. Lucky me I own an 03 Corolla which never lets me down. Absolutely no problems. If you like having car problems a lot get an Altima !

I am very impressed with this car as it it very affordable and has a ton of features that actually work like it says in the advertisements. Very Quiet, very powerful engine. Great interior layout. Nice gauges that are easy to read day and night. The car is breath taking fast and stops on a dime if you have to. Great looks and great performance at a great price is basically what this car adds up to. One test drive and you wil be hooked on the 3.5SE V6 model, Guaranteed.

  • Durable so far - 2004 Nissan Altima

Bought used with 36,000 miles on it. Well built, feels solid, durable. I drive 30,000 miles per year, mostly highway miles. Brakes were the only outstanding glitch"" as the rotors do not seem well built.

I first had a 2002 2.5S Altima, which I loved, but...it had bad luck (accidents, recalls etc) and was in and out of the service department. I put my faith in Nissans good name and tried again! I love the SL model! Its seems quieter and more comfortable seating. And the sound system (bose) is amazing! I love the cup holders. I love it all.

This has been the best vehicle I have owned. Could use some minor changes. Hopefully Nissan fixes them in the 2005 refresh.
