During the first year the following needed replacing: clutch pedal, exterior molding, clutch boot and casing, entire exhaust system, some other oil parts that were recalled because of fire potential. Tail light and head light. Unable to get tail light out of casing to change (still out for 6 mo. now). Very disapointed!!!

Looks good - but check under the hood... - 2002 Nissan Altima
By brad Hogan - May 6 - 7:40 amIve had several mechanical issues that just seem to linger - like a bad cold... Ive replaced both sensors - they keep going out. Its December and its 30 degrees outside and the heater doesnt work - at all. They say it has to do with a wire that has broken from ANOTHER sensor. Also, the car will just shut off - usually when Im going slower. But the car will usually start right up - thats always fun when youre coming to a stop light and the car just quits and you have to put your foot through the floorboard to stop the car. To Nissans defense, they have recalled for that very issue - well see if it gets fixed or not. I doubt theyll reimburse me for the other repairs

This is a great car! - 2002 Nissan Altima
By M&M - May 2 - 2:00 amThis is my first Nissan. I absolutely love my Altima! It is incredibly spacious and comfortable and fun to drive. Im still only in my first year of ownership, so I cant speak to any long-term problems, but so far, everything works great. The ride is very quiet, allowing me to enjoy the vehicles great sound system. The overall exterior of the car is also quite beautiful.

Radiator Broken - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Slan100 - April 25 - 12:36 am5 months after my warranty expired, the radiator broke down from the top (anyone has had the same problems?) The dealer charged $760 for replacing it. My Honda Accord has been there for 6 years and 3 months, not a single serious problem. It makes me nervous. Very disappointed. First time trying a Nissan and last time.

Happy New Honda Owner!! - 2002 Nissan Altima
By mastercaster - April 21 - 10:00 amPurchased the 2.5s 5spd. in 11-2002. aside from the several recalls, we had to have the oxygen sensor,camshaft sensor and fuel cap replaced. that was after it left my wife stranded. died 2 times in the middle of driving. had to be towed to the dealer for repair. nissan was not pleasant to deal with at all! wouldnt recommend nissan at all. should have listened to my gut when i bought it, and gone with the HONDA then. just bought a 03 Accord EX 5spd. LOVE it!! there is absolutely no comparison between the two. the accord is like climbing into a lexus after the nissan! really! every single aspect of the honda is better in my eyes, wallet and piece of mind!

Almost Got it Nissan - 2002 Nissan Altima
By obryan - April 7 - 10:00 amI really had my heart set on getting this car after seeing it on the road. The exterior design is amazing. The car is very fun to drive, BUT, and this is one big but, what was Nissan thinking when they designed the interior. My friends ford escort has a higher quality interior. The first car I got in at the dealer couldnt be started. The next one had broken door locks. The one I finally drove seemed ok until the arm rest cut my hand and the trunk release was broken. Given all these problems,Im getting a Camry. It isnt as fun to drive, but it is high quality.

Great Buy - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Mas7UB - April 2 - 10:00 amI just bought a Pewter color 2.5S and i really like it. The exterior looks very sleak and classy. I got mine with the auto dimming rear-view mirror with temp and compass, incabin microfilter,splash guards, and floor matts. I got it for about 18,400. So far I really like the car. Compared to the Accord, Camry, and Stratus, I think the Nissan Altima was a good choice for me.

Awesome car for the money - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Dmitriy - April 2 - 10:00 amI bought the car a month ago and cant stop enjoying driving it. Considered the accord and camry but altima offers way more for the money (paid 18200). The 4 cilinder offers very lively performance - cruises effortlessly at 85 mph. The design is outstanding. Nissan reliability is awesome(had a 96 altima for 6 years - not a single problem with 95000 miles on the odometer). Yes some plastic detailes have not yet been perfected in the interior but that is expected in the first year with a completely redesigned car. Altima just cant be beat at the price. Test drive one and you will see the difference. Way to go nissan.

Would not reccomment another Nissan - 2002 Nissan Altima
By Prof - March 29 - 12:16 pmI bought the Nissan altima 02 new and had planned o drive for at least 10 yrs. In the beginning it had recalls every other 3 mths. Every thing was ok since I made sure I took it in for every service the manufacturer recommended. This was until it go to 95,000 miles. It could not start in the mornings and the dealer said I had to replace the head gasket ($1500). This is after they replaced the body throttle 2 weeks before ($600). 3 mths later it just loses power while driving on the highway. I took it to the Nissan dealer 3 times ad they could not figure the problem out. I drove it to 3 mechanics who could not fix the problem. I had to buy another car. I do not recommend Nissan car to anyone. That engine?
