  • Best japanese car Ive owned - 1999 Mitsubishi Galant

OK, so its not a Honda or a Toyota, but that could be a good thing. Styling is great, especially with a spoiler and it will kick butt with the V6. Want to spend 10-15K more for a second faster in the 0-60 range? Then I guess this car is not for you. Want a stylish car that you can probably pass down to your kids after 80-90K miles? Then this one could fit the bill.

  • Not too happy - 1999 Mitsubishi Galant

Ive had a Galant for the last 4 years and all I can say is that its been satisfactory. The car has a reasonably powerful engine but the brakes are simply aweful. I have had to resurface the rotors and also replace the rotors and pads for the 48.000 miles on it. Also the audio system is pathetic. Ive also had some bearing and tire problems. The car came with Goodyear tires on which there was a manufacturing defect so there is a unique tire noise.

  • Mitsubishi is coming around - 1999 Mitsubishi Galant

Im still pleased with this car at 60k mi. Ive experienced one bad and one good dealership -- same experience with Ford and Dodge. It has great styling. This car hasnt given me one bit of mechanical trouble. There were a couple of loose panels that rattled, but that was an easy fix. With only 3 recalls for the first year of the body style, its been great!

  • My old, boring, and outdated ride - 1999 Mitsubishi Galant

This car may be fast because of its engine. My father thinks this is the best car he has ever had. This car may have a powerful engine I agree, but in my opinion I would say that I dont like this car too much. The reason is that this car has shown its age already. Go anywhere like hotels, restaurants, or even just shopping malls. Many of the cars I see are new or younger than this banger. Every time this car is in use I feel Im lagging behind because this car is old while those people they have fairly or brand new cars. This car is outdated already. We have a 2004 Dodge Durango but we seldom use it because its a gas guzzler. We also have 2004 Camry but my father says this is much nicer to drive.

  • Less Money, Great Value - 1999 Mitsubishi Galant

This is my fourth year of driving this car. I bought it used at 58k miles and have been very positively surprised by its reliability. Now I have 117k miles on it and still nothing to worry about. So far, I have only changed the normal wears and tears, otherwise, really nothing else. A very reliable car. My wifes dodge grand caravan was a big money guzzler, quite unreliable. This car can go another ten years, but its time for another Mitsubishi - may be a Mitsubishi Endeavor. A friend of mine recommended Mitsubishi and I am positively surprised. They are not as popular as Toyota , and for this reason - pretty cheap. However, they may out-perform the popular brands. Less Money,Great value.

  • I Love Mitsubishi! - 1999 Mitsubishi Galant

When I first got this car in 2006, I was really worried because it had over 106k. I bought the extended warranty and that eventually expired. The only thing Ive had to replace on the car in 3.5 yrs was a windshield ($130), a new battery ($50), new tires ($250), the engine belt was squealing but I didnt replace it until it broke as I was on the highway and caused overheating and needed a new radiator, old one cracked (my bad). Oh, and brake pads. THATS IT! Love my car and intend on buying another Galant when the time comes.

  • Opinion after 100,000 miles - 1999 Mitsubishi Galant
    By -

Although this car has been reliable and comfortable, I do have some serious complaints with the quality of the parts used on the car that are not related to the actual running of the car. Ive had two interior door handles break off, hubcaps are constantly falling off, and the gas cover broke off. When I first got this car a friend of mine liked my car and got one within 6 months of my purchase. She had the same three problems. This is part of the reason she already sold hers. There is also an annoying rattle when I drive over 65mph. It seems to be coming from the glove box. Ive taken it to the dealership and they cant figure out what to do to stop it.

  • An adequate car for a very good price - 1999 Mitsubishi Galant

The 99s came with bad tires, which I hope have been replaced. This is my second Galant. My first was an 89, which I drove for 180,000. Now, that was an amazing car. If you can find a low mileage 89 -91, buy it. I doubt if this one will make that, but I am sure it will hit the century mark All in all, considering that it is at least 2,000 less than the Camry and Accord, I Would recommend it. My dealership is a service oriented one, so shop around, but if you are in the NYC northern surburbs, Yorktown Mitsubishi is worth a visit.

I have had my 1999 Mitsubishi Galant for a year now and I love it. I bought it at 150k miles, it is now at 170k. The only major problem Ive had with it was the transmission, which went out do to my user error, it burns a bit of oil and the turn radius is not the best. Its the V6 model, very peppy and accelerates very quickly even with the new tranny I put in it. I put premium grade fuel in it, high mileage engine oil and I have not had a problem with its reliability. The A/C, heater, power locks and windows STILL work, even in he cold. This car is like a roach car, Im pretty sure it wont die. I met someone who has his at 330K miles and counting, another guy and he hasnt had a complaint.
