The all-new '99 Galant lineup features BMW-like styling, a new V6 engine option, more standard equipment and a GTZ model with a sport-tuned suspension.

Pros:
  • New V6 engine. Alternative styling that is supposed to be unique and different than the look-alike sedans on the market today.
Cons:
  • No manual transmission for V6 models.

Overall pretty good car except for brakes. No real problems in 85K miles

  • We had a love/hate relationship.... - 1999 Mitsubishi Galant

I hated this car, but loved it so much at the same time. I totaled it not too long ago, and for one final time, it saved my life. I walked away without a scratch. The car, on the other hand.... It was pretty bad. My car had not been properly maintained (thanks to the person who had given me the car), so it had a LOT of issues. Aside from the issues, though, it was a great car to drive. I loved the way it handled. I always had fun driving it. I took it back and forth from Indiana to Virginia three times. We had some issues, but it got me there. It was pretty hard saying my final goodbyes to this car.

  • Not worth it if theres problems... - 1999 Mitsubishi Galant

4 days after I purchased the car, I needed both front & rear brakes. The explanation was that it had been sitting on the docks in California for two months before I bought it and that the salt water probably caused corrosion of the calipers, rotors, etc. Unacceptable (IMHO)!!! Other problems here and there. Looking back on it, I did not get my moneys worth for what I paid ($26k+). I would not have purchased this car back then...but hey...I didnt know better (I was young- only 25).

The 1st month the car was floodeddue to poor window seals. Both interior door handles broke off (recall) and I have had proably 10+ recalls. Tried to turn it in under the lemon law but it has to be the same problem 4+ times. I have has alignments and it still is not striaght and over 70 mph it rattles. The resell value is terrible and to fix any small part as in light covers is very expensive.

  • So-so - 1999 Mitsubishi Galant

"Decent" car with nice styling. Tons of complaints about how great it looks, and thats why I bought it. Didnt realize though that this 4 cylinder has no motivation at all, the tranny takes forever to downshift sometimes, and passing people is a joke. It does cruise nicely at 85-95 mph but getting there can be frustrating. The interior is comfortable but there are quite a few obnoxious rattles (dash, passenger door/window, glovebox....) Breaks are also mediocre

  • Couldve been designed better - 1999 Mitsubishi Galant

Overall I would say the Galant is a "Pretty" car.. However, it lacks in interior design. The back seat is entirely too cramped, they should have cut back on trunk size to accomodate anyone over 3 feet sitting in the back. You couldnt find a penny using the dome lights centered in the front of the car..Also, the bumpers are dented too easily. A crash impact of 1 mile an hour causes thousands of $s worth of damage..Mitsu needs to listen to consumers and go back to the drawing board.
