Overview & Reviews
The big news for the 2005 Mini Cooper is the arrival of the convertible in both regular and S flavors. Stylish as ever, the drop-top Mini seats four and still has a trunk big enough for a few bags. Other changes include slightly revised front and rear fascias and some reworked option choices. The vanity mirrors are no longer illuminated, a universal remote transmitter is now available and a leather-wrapped steering wheel is now standard. The S version gains 5 horsepower and 7 pound-feet of torque, as well as an external temperature display. Both the five- and six-speed manual transmissions feature shorter gearing this year to improve acceleration. A six-speed automatic transmission will become available on the S versions later in the model year.
- Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, some low-grade interior materials.

I may be small, but I am safe and solid. - 2005 Mini Cooper
By autooracle - February 25 - 11:33 amGreat car. Handles better than a 911. If that corner says 30 and you are going 60. Hold on!! Very solid. Rattles can be a bit annoying. The dealer had to intall an anti rattle kit. So-far-so-good. Get rid of the run flat tires as fast as you can wear them out. Replacing them with another brand of tire will drastically improve your ride.

Miles of Smiles - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Bug Squasher - February 24 - 10:13 amMy car was delivered to me on the 22nd of June, a black JCW-equipped Cooper S. In the past 6 weeks I have put nearly 5,000 km on the odometer. If there is an organization that helps Cooper addicts, please get me the number! The car is such a joy to drive I find myself inventing reasons to go great distances, at the expense of other, often pressing, duties. Not only does the car have a stance and look that makes one think bulldog, but it also has that famous breeds faithfulness, tenacity and go-go attitude. I did thorough research on the car before I bought, and from that I anticipated at least one or two issues. Though still a young car I have yet to experience any problems at all.

Minitastic - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Emma - February 17 - 4:43 amI love my Mini. It is the car that makes you smile every time you get behind the seat. Any small flaws (there are a few rattles) are by far outweighed by the sheer pleasure of driving this tiny but mighty Mini!

Wow, what a fun little car! - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Vroom2 - February 4 - 1:10 amI had initial doubts about my wifes choice of the Cooper S but I am happy to report that these were unfounded. This car handles like a dream, has plenty of power and is the coolest thing on 4 wheels. If youre looking for a performance compact and want to avoid the bland design of most of the compettion, then the Cooper S is a great choice.

My Mini Time - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Heinz O. Georg - January 4 - 6:30 amBefore "Mini", I always drove BMWs.After the lease for my BMW 535 expired, my wife & I went to the BMW dealer. She expected that I would buy a new BMW.Just a short distance away from BMW was the Mini sales facility. I (German) always loved Minis (since I was a student). My wife (American) had no idea what a Mini is. I had changed my job & didnt need a big car anymore.I was free to choose the car, I really wanted. After my wife "inspected" the car, she still could not believe that I could become happy with a Mini. I looked to the Mini and she looked into my eyes and she knew that I was happy with it.

The most fun car you will ever own - 2005 Mini Cooper
By zellerware - December 25 - 4:30 pmWow! This is truly the best handling car I have ever owned (beats 911, 3 series, A4 hands down in the handling dept). Fit and finish are superb.. Has such a fun feel. Feels like a mini F1 car when driving. I suggest special ordering one as there are so many cool options to build the car the exact way you want it. Get the "navagation" pack and "limited slip". Thanks BMW!

Cooper S - 2005 Mini Cooper
By fgdrewry - December 24 - 8:50 pmAlthought this car is less than a month old, I traded in a Hatchback Cooper S with 30,000 miles that I purchased 3 years ago. My evaluation would be the same for the MINI I traded except for performance. My new car has the John Cooper Works kit which boosts the horse power from about 167 to 207. This makes the car really get up and go. I have had numerous sports cars over the years--Maserati, Porsche, Corvette, etc. and this handles as well as any of them.

MINI Mania - 2005 Mini Cooper
By vonhanep - December 5 - 11:26 pmWithout a doubt the most fun car I have ever driven. It still brings a smile to my face whenever I open the garage on my way to work in the morning. The one-button convertible top operation, which opens and closed the windows as well as the top is an engineering feat.

Cool Ride - 2005 Mini Cooper
By romeo427 - December 1 - 12:06 pmI just picked-up my 05 Mini Cooper "S." Its handling is, well, unbelievable! I am geting 27 mpg in combined driving. I have not gotten anywhere near the rated 32 mpg (automatic). This car is bigger than it looks. It is fun to drive. I was not impressed with the "go" factor in the recent east coast snow.
