This Year's Model Updates:

The big news for the 2005 Mini Cooper is the arrival of the convertible in both regular and S flavors. Stylish as ever, the drop-top Mini seats four and still has a trunk big enough for a few bags. Other changes include slightly revised front and rear fascias and some reworked option choices. The vanity mirrors are no longer illuminated, a universal remote transmitter is now available and a leather-wrapped steering wheel is now standard. The S version gains 5 horsepower and 7 pound-feet of torque, as well as an external temperature display. Both the five- and six-speed manual transmissions feature shorter gearing this year to improve acceleration. A six-speed automatic transmission will become available on the S versions later in the model year.

Pros:
Cons:
  • Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, some low-grade interior materials.

I just picked up my Mini-S convertible and I cant stop smiling. its just too much fun to drive and has a wonderful feel for the road. Im new to the Mini so the cockpit took a little getting used to and the hood release is on the passenger side and the rear visibility is limited with the top up as is the case in every convertible ive ever owned. All in all, just a whole lotta fun.

My 2005 MINI Cooper is truly a fantastic car with so many options available that you get a completely customizable ride straight from the factory. I recommend this car to anyone who has to commute far, for in-town driving, or for someone who just wants a nice economical show-piece in your driveway. I couldnt be happier with my purchase.

After leasing a loser VW Jetta 1.8 T, I wanted a European car that: A-Handled like a European Car, B-Was realativly inexpensive, and C-Wasnt a peice of junk (like my Jetta). After some research and a test drive I was set on the MINI and in my humble opinion this car has scored big in critera A and B. Talk to me in six months and I will tell you about C but I am not worried. MINI will tell you that it handles like a go-kart. I say it handles like a remote control car. The ride is ruff but if you like to feel the road and be in control of the car you can not get any better for the money. Price-wise I think you are getting more car than you pay for. My MINI is awsome.

This car is fun to drive and own. Trying to keep it within the speed limit is difficult. I purchased a radar detector before I filled the tank for the first time. The only downside was getting the run-flat tire repaired after I picked up a nail on the street.

This is a fun car to drive. Excellent road feel and cornering, like driving an adult go-cart. Great sound when you step on the gas and instant response (S model). The rag-top is a no-brainer in ease to use and is a like being totally outside. The perfect toy for grown-ups!

We keep the Mini at our beach house. What a neat car for tooling along a1a. Not a day goes by that someone stops me and admires my Mini. I have never seen a convertible top as well made as my Minis. The ride is exceptional for a small car. I just love my Mini. The only negative is my service dealer is 75 miles from where my Mini lives.

This car is a fun car and now with the price of gasoline, it is an economical car to drive. I am very happy with the way it handles, especially on curves. I really dont think the car can be rolled. It is a little rough riding, but I think that is mainly due to the "run flat tires" on my car. I like how the door windows seal themselves, which reduces wind noise. The car is easy to clean and care for. It is suprising how much one can place in the back; even more if the rear seats folded down. It is a great car!

I find it odd how some people claim to have such bad experiences with car. I think they are the ones who write reviews, and the others (the vast majority) are out driving. Im in the latter category. I have had not one single breakdown, broken anything, or even a rattle develop in 6 months/7,000 miles of driving it. In fact, I cant believe Ive already put 7,000 miles on it. I had one defect from the get-go, but its so minor, its hardly worth mentioning: the drivers-side door handles LED seems to have omitted at the factory (the passenger-side one is present). Oh the horror! I can recommend this car without qualification as one with the best build, quality, fun and value out there.
