Overview & Reviews
The big news for the 2005 Mini Cooper is the arrival of the convertible in both regular and S flavors. Stylish as ever, the drop-top Mini seats four and still has a trunk big enough for a few bags. Other changes include slightly revised front and rear fascias and some reworked option choices. The vanity mirrors are no longer illuminated, a universal remote transmitter is now available and a leather-wrapped steering wheel is now standard. The S version gains 5 horsepower and 7 pound-feet of torque, as well as an external temperature display. Both the five- and six-speed manual transmissions feature shorter gearing this year to improve acceleration. A six-speed automatic transmission will become available on the S versions later in the model year.
- Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, some low-grade interior materials.

I Will Have This Car Forever! - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Malulani Jervis - September 10 - 6:36 pmI love my car. I have never said these words before in my life. My Mini is a fun car that makes me smile whenever i drive it and also makes people on the street smile whenever they look at it. I will keep this car forever. It is the kind of car that you want to have even if you get another car! I cannot say enough good things about it!

Topless touring - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Dan - August 20 - 6:16 pmMy MINI Cooper S Convertible is fun to drive and peppy enough to get with the flow of traffic quickly. Its mileage has been disappointing on the highway. Im averaging about 28 mpg @ 70 mph. If you slow down to 60 mph then it gets into the high 30s. The seat is too grippy for a long haul. The radio is good, but not user friendly. The fit and finish seem very good. This car is lots of fun and draws lots of smiles and grins. Ive been driving it for 8000 miles in 3 1/2 months and there havent been any problems.

Great style, poor reliability - 2005 Mini Cooper
By michaelben - August 11 - 9:56 pmI own two MINIs: both S, one hardtop and one convertible. Both are stylish and a hoot to drive. I am a gentle driver - the convertible averages only 4,000 mi/yr and the hardtop about 9,000 mi/yr. And yet... I have had to replace the transmission three times on the hardtop, the AC failed twice on the hardtop, the AC / heat system failed once on convertible, the ASC light comes on/stays on in both, they have various serious rattles - that MINI knows of - they have had to be serviced. MINI service has taken care of everything, but I am spending most of my highway driving just taking both cars in for service. I am regretting having two MINIs that have so many service issues. Hate to give up the style, but...

05 Mini - 2005 Mini Cooper
By jrfats - July 23 - 10:26 pmIm delighted with this Mini. I call it a go cart with air conditioning. I wish that the tires would last longer, but that is a low profile run flat problem. I wish that there were more dealers as I keep the car in Montana - it is over 400 miles to the nearest one. So far, I have had no problems. The brakes are much better than in the 2003 model, which I still have in another location.

Hyper Blue Convertible - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Hyper Blue - April 22 - 6:46 amI traded my fast and spacious Subaru Forester XT in for a fun and fuel efficient Mini Convertible. Although, friends and family thought I was nuts, I have been enjoying the Mini so much that Ive already put 1,000 miles on it! Ive had it just over a week and the twisty roads have been such a blast! I do miss the quick acceleration of the Forester, but the Minis horsepower is adequate. The convertible top is amazing and so easy to use. I test drove a Saab convertible before the Mini and was completely suprised by how much quieter the Mini is. You simply push the button and the Minis top folds into "sunroof" mode (cool feature) and then push the button again to fold completely.

Funin the Sun - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Vangogh - March 30 - 2:30 pmI am delghted with the car. It is a blast to drive, particularly on the winding country roads near-by. The convertible turns a ton of heads. I have never owned a car that gets so many smiles, waves and inquiries. Overall good build, although some of the plastic in interior seems a little cheap. That being said, when the top is down and the sun is out, Ive never had so much fun in a car. One down side...my wife gets a little upset when I get smiles and waves from other ladies.

FUN MOBILE - 2005 Mini Cooper
By BIGMINI - January 7 - 2:10 pmI have own many vehicles before, but none have been has fun to drive as the MINI Cooper S. Great Handling car, as while as good on gas. With four snow tires on, this car is unstopable in the snow. I have passed many 4WD vehicles going up hills, that they could not make.
