  • Some issues - 2006 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Love the drive, the ride, and the looks... But Mercedes has some issues to work out. Nickel and diming on the options list for a $50,000 truck any way you slice it - doesnt leave the buyer with a warm and fuzzy. Had a 2001 ML - Dimming Mirrors, memory seats et al came with the package. Why cheap up? Nav/Radio/CD has died on me 3 times. Alternator took two weeks to get part after it failed. Hard downshift issue continues to be a problem - especially as I use it in moderate off-road. (Although DSL works great!) And Ive only had it since mid-September! If you go off road at all, get the air shocks. 19" wheels otherwise will bottom under moderate conditions.

  • Mercedes ML after one year - 2006 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

The ML 350 compares favorably with my old BMW X5 in comfort and design with the following exceptions: Not as sporty a ride as the X5. BMWs just drive more like sporting cars to me than Mercedes. Lack of low-end acceleration. The X5 and ML that I had are both 6-cyl models. I havent compared acceleration times but the Merc doesnt seem as quick. The new 6-sp transmission on the ML has a whine to it that can be annoying. The radio controls embedded within the nav screen on the ML are not intuitive. Poor positioning of the cruise control stalk. Ill be happy with the ML but not as happy as w/the X5. Cant wait for the reported development of the BMW X6!

Great looks and comfort, but in one year has been in the shop 4 times for a total of a month with all kinds of mechanical and electrical troubles. New steering rack, new rear suspension, rear deck closer, thumping into downshift at stops in tranny (numerous software updates), a 6- year old Navigation DVD supplied making Navigation system useless, rattles in body. Pages and pages of campaigns to fix mistakes in build each time I bring it in, but at least they fix it free and give a nice M-B loan car. But when its working, its a dream, and Ill buy the new Diesel ML-320 CDI version soon.

  • Very disappointed - 2006 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I purchased my first Benz and positively my last. The SUV in general was pretty good until a couple of months later after I purchased it (brand new) Its been a nightmare since then. Something had to be fixed every now and then,at least 3-4 times a year. When it was still under warranty,it wasnt a big deal. Then big things started breaking after the warranty expired. I can now say its a piece of junk. My 2 Lexus RX 330s and a Nissan pathfinder in the past had not been in the shop for repairs collectively as my ML was. Finally got rid of it and traded it for an Infiniti. Whew! what a relief.

  • Great SUV and MPG - 2006 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
    By -

I am not sure why this SUV is listed as 16 mpg. I regularly get 22-24 miles per gallon on the freeway and around 18 mpg in town. For an SUV, you cant ask for better. We bought this SUV used and have loved it ever since. I coveted this new model when it came out in 2006 and wanted one then. This is a safe, fun to drive SUV with all the necessary luxury items a driver could want. I agree with other reviewers that it seems louder on the highway, but I was driving a passenger sedan before and from what I have heard, all SUVs are louder on the highway, including the Lexus which prides itself on being super quiet. Overall, a great SUV.

  • Great SUV IF its working - 2006 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

We purchased an 2006 ML500 a year ago. It has been in the shop at least 4 times and over $10K of repairs. I am glad we purchased the extended warranty and it is still covered. Thank God! Anways, if this suv was just reliable it would be perfect. My wife and I love driving this vehicle. The problem it is always in the shop. We are thinking about trading it in because it a hassle taking it to the shop every 3-4 months. This is by far the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned.

  • Nice Car - 2006 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Terrific all around vehicle. Very reliable, as I never had to bring it in for service other than regular scheduled service.

  • Great SUV - 2006 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

After riding in the Lexus and BMW, this was the best and most fun to drive. It just says luxury. The controls could be better positioned, but overall its a great buy for the price.

  • A mixed review - 2006 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

The vehicle was ordered with a factory installed towing package. It was forgotten by the factory and can not be added post-market. It also mated with the Mercedes bicycle rack. This was a real bummer. The dealership said this was a fairly common factory problem. Not great for the Alabama Mercedes Quality Control. While I was offered a few sweeteners to take a vehicle without the towing package, it ended up leaving a somewhat sour taste in my mouth. I have contacted Germany to see if more can be done. I thought they were really committed to getting the US factory bugs worked out. The center console opens in two different ways and the latch sticks. That is a minor concern.

  • Great car BAD nav - 2006 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
    By -

First time owning a MB and comming from a long line of Infinitis I love this SUV. Handles great w/ the Air suspension. But next to my partners M35 the NAV on my MB is the worst Ive seen yet. It cant find half the things your looking for and then it sometimes puts you in the wrong area. It seems Germans know how to make a fine ride but when it comes to technology, the Japanese have the upper hand. Id love to see some Japanese technology integrated in here.
