This Year's Model Updates:

All M-Class models get an interior facelift available in one of three new colors, optional third-row seating and a Touch Shift automanual transmission. ML320 buyers get body-color bumpers and trim, real walnut inside, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob, revised interior fabric, seatback map pockets and footwell lamps. In addition to these items, a standard navigation system, high-grade leather, and heated seats come on all ML430s.

Pros:
  • Lots of interior space, quite comfortable, carlike ride and handling, excellent snow vehicle.
Cons:
  • Poor reputation of build quality, looks like a minivan, not particularly adept off-road.

  • Not bad at all! - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I have owned this car for 10 years now and i am still trusting it. It had some minor problem but so has every car. The only problem is the interior parts are not very durable. Little things like the door panel, handle, seat panel etc. Otherwise, it is a very reliable car. In fact, it is more reliable than my newer BMW 7 series. I will get another Benz because of the reliable engine and trans and the comfort, not sure if it will be an SUV but might consider the E class. the m class is pretty worth it for the price and re sell is not bad at all.

Aside from a few minor fixes (rear corner glass piece cracks, etc - al taken care of under warranty) my ML has been great. Its relatively quick, sure-footed, and comfortable (keep in mind - I also own an Audi S4). Sure, it drinks gas like theres no tomorrow, but what would you expect from a V-8? I will be trading mine in for a ML500 in a couple of years.

  • Great to drive, but ... - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Responsive engine, fun autostick, reasonable gas mileage (if youre careful), wonderfully comfortable seats, great sounding stereo. But every six months its back in the dealer for something else, window switches (of course), rattles, CD, radio, paint (dealers fault). The build quality is dismal

  • The ML Experience - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I wanted an SUV that would last me for 10 years -- and up to this point, I admit Im a little worried. Granted, its only had 1 mechanical failure in 33k miles, but I have also replaced the brakes once. On the other hand, while the interior is a little dated, the SUV is built like a tank and is fun to drive. The ML430 is VERY peppy with the 24V V8. Would I buy another one? Thats the real question, isnt it? Yes, Id buy another one. The ML tends to get better each year I look at them.

  • Solid Performance form my ML430 - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I bought my ML430 in 04 with 22K miles and some remaining factory warranty. I have had some minor issues but for the most part it has been rock solid. It has used 3 sets of brake pads and a set of rotors over 90K miles. I did have a leak from the power steering pump that required service. The only issue now is that the interior is beginning to show its age. I use this car to tow a race car trailer long distances, it could use a but more power. The Nav system is very dated now but still works OK but there are no data updates anymore. Back seat fold-down system is just plain dumb. Like everybody the glue from the door insulation melts onto the windows on hot days. I still love this car!

  • Safety, handling & value - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I suppose the best way to think of an ML is that its the least "Mercedes" Mercedes. A lower quality fit and finish is an obvious compromise in getting the price to the mid $30s. First, the ML is safer than most SUVs because of superb braking, multiple airbags (my 2000 ML has six), ESP (electronic stability program), and very good handling. The cabin offers fewer frills, but really only fails in the all important cup holder department. Operationally, the biggest improvement I can think of would be a larger gas tank for a little better range and fewer fill ups.

  • ML320 Good but not Reliable - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
    By -

Great car mechanically but electrically unreliable like all Mercedes models since 2000. Poor reliability related to electrical/sensor problems (Robert Bosch?). By 75000 miles repaired: door locks sensors, crankshaft position sensor(engine stops unexpectedly), mass airflow sensor, front window switches (twice),brake pressure sensor, brake switch, rear seat locked down

  • A "wanna-be" Mercedes - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

The 2000 ML320 is a good car. The interior is very comfertible. It rates terrible for a Mercedes. The dash is made like crap for one thing. There are not enough cupholders, and no one touch windows all around. It handles well for an SUV, and fuel economy greatly worsens over time. The engine and transmition were brilliantly matched. The transmition is the best I have ever seen.

this is my first mercedes experience. in the past 12 months ive had to spend over $3500 replacing various parts including fuel pump, steering mechanism, and the battery. ive had my vehicle stuck in my garage because it wouldnt start on 3 occassions and stuck 1,000 miles from home after my fuel pump went bad with no warning. perhaps i have/had high expectations but i didnt and do not expect such problems with a mercedes benz product

  • Spent Too Much! - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
    By -

Bought this vehicle and spent the money thinking I was purchasing quality. Have had the car back to the shop at least 6 times for leaking anti freeze - cant seem to fix properly. Customer ervice totally rots once you buy the car - Treated with little respect as a female owner - would I do it again - NO WAY - even though I do like the car and even spent the $$$$ to purchase the extended warranty thinking I would keep until I got my monies worth. Even the brakes dont last - I have under 24,000 miles on this car and really try to keep it up but this is definitely high maintenance!!!!!
