This Year's Model Updates:

All M-Class models get an interior facelift available in one of three new colors, optional third-row seating and a Touch Shift automanual transmission. ML320 buyers get body-color bumpers and trim, real walnut inside, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob, revised interior fabric, seatback map pockets and footwell lamps. In addition to these items, a standard navigation system, high-grade leather, and heated seats come on all ML430s.

Pros:
  • Lots of interior space, quite comfortable, carlike ride and handling, excellent snow vehicle.
Cons:
  • Poor reputation of build quality, looks like a minivan, not particularly adept off-road.

  • Expensive - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

We bought our 2000 Mercedes in 2006 because we got it for only $14,000, but this thing is horrible in reliability. The catalytic conveters went, and we could not drive it for three months. Also the car is very expensive to maintain, $80 for oil change, $600 brake changes, $30-$60 for gas. The car is a nice drive, and the interior has a nav whitch is an asset. It also has a third row seat whitch is useful. I would not recommend this car if you dont have a lot of money, but if you do, good luck.

  • Terrible build quality - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

This car has been in the shop 21 times in two years, mostly for annoying little problems, sometimes seriuos problems. This is a Mercedes, it should be top quality. There are also some very goofy interior design flaws - why is the volume control on the passenger side? No sterring wheel audio controls and no door open light. It is fun to drive, and perfoms/ handles well. but way too much time in the shop. Simply not worth it. Also, MB USA simply doesnt care.

  • Not what you expect from a Benz - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Bought this ML new the first month the radio went! within a year I had to replace a power window switch, Rear pillar panel, and the top of the center armrest. within 18 months transmission leaked. The second winter the front heated seats quit. Not at all what you would expect from a Benz.

Lots of electrical problems. Engine is loud, doesnt sound good either, slow acceleration. Throbbing wind noise with rear windows rolled down. Fuel tank too small (230mi range) Fuel filler not compatible with certain pumps Needs cutting edge safety features Small cargo area. Wind noise from rearviews low road noise however Good ride and handling, however stability is questionable Comfortable, very easy to drive, great turning radius. great brakes for SUV dealer service is great bad cupholders

  • Kinks to work out - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Finally after 2 1/2 years of trips to the repair shop, I finally gave up on my ML. 12 trips to the shop for 8 different reasons and I finally had enough. The last straw was getting stranded by a fuel pump failure. All items were covered under the warranty but for $40,000 I at least want a car that runs for a couple of years before mechanical failures set in.

  • Nice to drive, expensive to maintain - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Nice car to drive. It handles well. All in all I really like the vehicle. Unfortunetly Mercedes doesnt make a reliable car. In the five years that I owned it these are some of the problems that I had or at least the ones that I can remember. Windows wouldnt go up, replaced button pad twice. Brakes went after 40,000. Requires ceramic pads very expensive. Key wouldnt turn in steering wheel lock. Catalytic converter had a cracked tube and sounded like a boat until I got it fixed. Front headlight had to be replaced after 15,000. Rear light holder on inside rear door had to be adjusted. Wires under passenger seat rattled. Some part on the air intake need replacing $ 500. Now the gas gauge isnt working .Great!

  • M.B. has lost a customer for life - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I had a 99 ML-320 that was so awful the dealer gave me a great deal to get out of it into a 2000 model, which he claimed was much improved. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Among the problems were nagging Check Engine lights that came on every so often, stuttering power locks that sometimes locked and sometimes didnt, a/c which was improperly wired, center arm console which would bubble-up (was replaced three times), a/c compressor blew its fuse every so often (had to travel with spare fuses), expensive brakes that would last only about 20,000 miles, and, of course, the five times in three years the car would not start and had to be towed.

  • Not my Favorite - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
    By -

Ive always owned BMWs, this is my first Mercedes Benz. I must say I prefer BMW over Benz. I like the drive but the seats are not comfortable they dont recline very well. I am starting to have multiples of problems from simple things as the window switch needs replacing to the radiator and now the brake control unit which is expensive. Im trying to now sell this car but Im afraid someone will be disappointed when they have to maintain it. But its cute!

  • Never again - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Wanted to keep the vehicle for 1-10 years. On an average very yaer had to take to delare with issues like malfunction of radio or power windows or leak in gas pump etc evry 6 montsh isn teh first 2 years. Letley its been every 3-4 monthe we have had teh car breaking down. We are past teh warranty peiod so its comes out of our pocket to fix the vehicle. Have complained to no vail to Beck Imports.

  • Pure Aggrevation - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
    By -

This vehicle has been in the shop more times than I can count. I just thank God I purchased the extended warranty. Not a month goes by without some problem, be it heated seats not working to transmision/brakes etc..My advise would be not to even consider buying this car. Its extremely unreliable - Couldnt unload it fast enough. MB did not do their job
