This Year's Model Updates:

All M-Class models get an interior facelift available in one of three new colors, optional third-row seating and a Touch Shift automanual transmission. ML320 buyers get body-color bumpers and trim, real walnut inside, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob, revised interior fabric, seatback map pockets and footwell lamps. In addition to these items, a standard navigation system, high-grade leather, and heated seats come on all ML430s.

Pros:
  • Lots of interior space, quite comfortable, carlike ride and handling, excellent snow vehicle.
Cons:
  • Poor reputation of build quality, looks like a minivan, not particularly adept off-road.

  • MLs are cool! - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

We enjoy our 1998 ML320, From the SF Bay Area we have driven it to Oregon, Seattle and British Columbia. We also have taken it to Las Vegas Nevada numerous times. The ML handles well on mountain roads at high speeds even in the rain. We take our ML on camping trips, cross country trips, lake picnics and we also tow our 17 ft. Bayliner boat. MLs are not perfect but name an SUV in its class that is as tough? The ML can haul ass!

I am very impressed with the overall comfort and performance of my ML. The car is roomy, fast, firm, and well designed.

The best thing I can say for my 2000 ML 320 is that every time I test drive another SUV with the temptation to buy something new, I am more appreciative of my ML. The vehicle remains rock solid, and extremely comfortable. Granted, I only have 90K on it, but because it is from local use, I have put the interior through a lot of use. The leather seats were a wonderful choice, and are still flawless. Yes, there are sometimes repair issues, but over the past 17 years my average monthly cost has been well within the range of ownership of any premium vehicle. Ill probably drive my ML until the wheels fall off, and only God knows when that will be!

I bought this SUV last month before doing my usual online investigative work. I admit I bought the vehicle because I liked the drive, image and I actualy fit behind the wheel (64"). I have 6 months left on the factory warrantee and I am having the local MB dealer check out the usual bugs reported in the reviews I read here. I notice some folks love the ML320 while others seem to hate it due to build quality. I hope I got one of the "good" ones..

  • Awsome ML320 y2000 - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

This SUV (2000) is by far the most outstanding vehicle in the SUV class. I have been in, driven, and tested others both on and off road. The ML320 has the most outstanding combination of off- road and on-road, convenience, safty, and comfort. Did I mention safty? The ESP is awsome and has proven itself to me (no details). Everything in this vehicle is quality. From the wheels to the door knobs. The electronics are also awsome and never fail. kudos...

It has been a joy to own and drive. No problems and has performed well in snowy conditions. One crticism, cruise control is awkward to use. Handles well in critical situations.

  • Great SUV! - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I bough mine in Sept 2000. I stayed away until late 2000 model year after hearing quality issues on 1998 and 1999 models. I wouldnt touch these first 2 year model! For 2000, MBZ revised the interior and presume all the issues found on 1st 2 years. Hey, I had NO PROBLEM with mine and cant see why there are so many who whine about their car. We took it in for 1 yr service and Bellevue MBZ dealer also replaced the sunroof motor. I guess there may have been a "silent" recall. What can I say? Just love this SUV!

  • After 80,000 miles - trouble - high cost - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Expensive to extend its life - Cayalytic converter cracked, shock absorbers in rear needed replacement, coil went out , spark wires replaced, new transmission fluid required to extend life (MB says no, dealer says yes), New fuel filter,...etc. $3,500 + costs - too much

  • pretty disappointing - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

My rating number does not tell the full story. My wife and I love the truck for all that is Mercedes. We both agree though that the build quality is poor. Sure all the stuff is fixed under warranty, but going to the dealership every month and a half gets old. I should have known what I was in for when the door broke on delivery. Failed window switches, radio glitches, hoses that develop holes - in addition to shoddy work at the dealer. Cant say I would buy one again, and in fact, are shopping to trade it in on something else. Really thought I would get something more for a $500 a month payment.

This is two vehicles-in-one for our family. My wife loves using it for driving the kids around, shopping, whatever. She especially likes the on- the-spot braking. I love taking it on camping trips. It has tons of room for all our camping gear (family of 4) - especially when I shift the back seats forward to increase the cargo area. No other SUVs I looked at (at the time) had the same blend of cargo capacity, handling and ride. You do feel like you are driving a tall euro sedan - cornering is quite remarkable (due to ESP) for a vehicle so tall. We have had a few minor issues requiring dealer service but overall have been pleased with its reliability.
