Overview & Reviews
Mercedes expands its M-Class with the addition of the more powerful and luxurious ML430 and gives the 320 more standard equipment.
- Capable sport-utes with Mercedes-Benz levels of refinement, powerful engines.
- ML320 looks like the Mercury Villager minivan from the rear. These sport-utes are better on-road than off.

Poor quality - 1999 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By uro doc - January 8 - 10:00 amThis car has been in the shop several times. It has cut off in the middle of the road as well as a separate instance where the steering wheel locked up - both very dangerous situations. Plastic pieces have broken. The power windows broke on the night my son was born and I had to run back and forth from the delivery room to the parking lot so the repairman could get the window back up. It a fun and practical car but simply is not reliable considering it 2 years old.

By RANDI - July 11 - 10:26 pmI purchased this vehicle 1 year ago used with 70,000 miles. Since then I had to replace driver side window switch ($482.00), cad converter($2000) oxygen sensors($1000),rear brakes & roters($1000), the interior squeaks, front squeaks, etc.. many more repairs to come and it did not hold its value I might as well just burn it!

MY LAST MERCEDES - 1999 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By Frankfurt - December 21 - 2:00 amThis was my 4th and will be my last Mercedes. With fond past experiences I didnt mind paying the extra cash for the 3-pointed star. Replaced many parts during the warranty period and got to know my repair service rep very well. When the warranty period expired, the true pain commenced. Replaced: the ESP/BAS unit twice at $1600 each time, one fuel pump ($870), two window electronic control sets ($400 each), interior panel lights went out twice, the steering wheel cover is loose and interior/exterior trim pieces keep coming loose. The wind noise is like a Mack truck. Now there is a whining noise under the hood. Enough is enough!!!

Never Again - 1999 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By Never_a_MB_AGAIN - July 21 - 2:00 amBought ML320 used at 22K miles. Had it for 20 months, and got rid of it. The final straw was the failure of the third ESP/BAS unit. Wife drives my Volvo wagon with 230,000 miles because it was more reliable! ESP/BAS was replaced twice at $1800 each time, and needs replacing AGAIN! Fuel pump failed ($800); new rear struts ($250);"Check Engine" light on constantly. In 20 months, we spent over $5K in repairs - Plastic pices, trim and other interior parts were coming loose; wind noise; moon roof never would seal properly; window drive motor on its last legs (which I refused to put any more money into the car). NEVER NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY A MERCEDES BENZ

DONT BUY AN ML430 - 1999 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By SADIG D - May 21 - 10:00 amI bought my ml 430 new back in 1999 I had a lot of problems with it like cup holders break all the time, the power steering pump goes bad all the time and the interior wood trim is so cheep it squeaks all the time if you are planning to buy this suv I mean the ml 430 you need to know that its the worst m class in the history of Mercedes. My ml430 was sold with 37k miles and I bought a 2001 Ml55 its a totally different car even with the same body style. The best Mercedes suv is the ml320 all of my friends who has one have never complained about it. Some time wanting the options does not give you the best car you want

Mercedes ML 320 - 1999 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By Jim Smith - April 17 - 2:00 amContinuing electrical problems. Doors lock while one is not in car. Always take out keys when I am not in vehicle. Intermittant rattles which dealer refuses to try and fix. Poor dealer relations when problems occur. Engine knock.

Why so many Noises & problems? - 1999 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By raymond tang - March 30 - 2:00 amThese are all the parts which Ive replaced during my 25,500 miles driving history: 1) all four shocks totally replaced within 10,000 miles due to non-stop clunking noises 2) all the doorss power locks were replaced due to failure to close doors, the door gears simply wont activate, doors would bounced back when tried to close 3) right headlight burnt out at 9,000 miles 4) driver side window could not close; Also, 5)Check Engine yellow light was on at 25,000 miles, emission problem. Most annoying problem: Non-stop creaking, clunking, squeaking, cracking noises everywhere during the drive. Just could not imagine how this car was assembled in USA.

Too Few Comforts, Too Many Repairs - 1999 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By Steve Procter - April 12 - 2:00 amI compair this car to my 1994 Mercury Sable which cost 1/2 as much. The Mercury does it better in each of these areas: Trip computer poor, no auto heat/air control, intermittenent wiper limited, cup holders in wrong place, visors dont cover two windows at once, switches in wrong places, arm rests too low, way to many trips to the dealer, parts expensive, many rattles.
