This Year's Model Updates:

The SLK's 2.3-liter supercharged engine gets dropped into the C-Class, replacing the normally aspirated engine of the last C230. Performance has been turned up a notch. In addition, leather seating surfaces are now standard across the C-Class line.

Pros:
  • Fast and luxurious.
Cons:
  • Initial hesitation when taking off from a standstill.

Bought the certified car with 30K in 2002. Ive driven the car 80 miles every day and after 83,000 miles, I have yet to have a single repair bill, except for regular FSS A/B maintenance (every 10K miles). Its W202 body is a classic and the perky 2.8 engine justs adds. The C280 is one of the best cars made in Germany from 1998-2000. Afterwards, the C240, with a lesser 2.6 engine, was launched.

  • 2 door Fun to 4 door Enjoyment - 1999 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

I was a very happy owner of the MB SLK- 230. My daughter returned home, and it just wasnt practical, so I resigned myself to the 4-door C class. Much to my pleasant surprise, not only was the SLK engine still maintaining the driving fun, but I actually dont feel the "loss" of the funness going into what I thought was going to be my grandmothers stuffy sedan feel. I like being wrong sometimes ;-)

Trouble-free ownership experience. Good-looking, comfortable and well- powered at any speed. Great handling and very good highway ride. At start- up, engine is quite noisy, though after 30 seconds, it quiets signficantly. For a near-luxury class car, engine noise should still be lower than it is.

I have put 25,000 miles on my car in less than a year and have not had one problem. It has been on a 2,000 mile round trip to Key West effortlessly. I have taken it to the Mountains , had my camping gear in the trunk. This car has seen it all. This is my 4th Mercedes and I have nothing but praise for the 3 point star. Solid as a Rock.

Overall great car, very fast luxurious to the max, my 280 has 90 thousand miles and still runs like the first day, never has broke down, just regular services.

This is the first Benz Ive owned, and I love the C280. Ive owned many cars, both domestic and foreign and this one is the best, better then the BMW I traded in.

The C280 is undeniably part of the Benz tradition of exellence and luxury. From its solid construction to its ability to turn heads around, the C280 is the best small Benz yet.

  • Excellent Little Car - 1999 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Bought a used 1999 c230 kompressor with 74,000 miles on it. Pre-Purchase inspection revealed it in "Excellent" condition in every aspect. It is fun to drive, quiet, comfortable and looks and drives like a new car. Not a ding or dent, rattle or squeek and relatively low mileage. Original paint and clearcoat looks like new so does the interior. Great car.

  • Great car, exceptional engine. - 1999 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
    By -

I bought this car new and I have had no problems. The best feature about this car is the powerful V6. It makes passing on 2 lane roads quick and easy. The outstanding suspension smooths out potholes yet is taut enough to tear through mountain passes. The interior is businesslike and neat. The seats are comfortable enough to travel for around 2 hours, but cross country trips are quite uncomfortable. The controls are well placed, but the radio is hard to use when moving. The trunk is big enough for luggage for 4, and the back seat holds 2 adults comfortably. The only problem with the car is, with the big engine, it has a tendency to understeer, but this can be fixed by power induced oversteer.
