This Year's Model Updates:

TeleAid, which can assist in summoning help if you're ill or involved in a crash, is a brilliant new standard feature. A Touch Shift automanual transmission is added to all C-Class models, and stability control is standard this year. C-Class now comes with free scheduled service for the duration of the warranty period.

Pros:
  • Solid construction, free scheduled maintenance, lots of luxury.
Cons:
  • No manual transmission, aged design, grumbling exhaust note of C230.

  • dissapointed - 2000 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Bought two year old car in May 2002 with 8000 miles on it for 31000 dollars so it was no bargain especially since I have had it back to the dealers three times in one year. I have persistent problems with the transmission. The car jerks when I accelerate from a light or stop when it is moving in to first gear and the dealer hasnt managed to fix it yet. Now I know why the previous owner gave it back after only driving it for 8000 miles! Drives very well once it gets to third gear and on highways but for the most part I am not enjoying it. My next car will be a BMW or a Lexus.

Bought my first MB C230K little over a year ago, and I am unimpressed. I think Ill buy a Lexus in 2 years when I anticipate buying again. Theres nothing big, but a bunch of little stuff wrong .. the LCD display stopped working 6 months ago, the middle storage compartment never opens as it should, the front drivers door doesnt close properly even tho its been repaired twice, the glovebox wont stay closed. The brakes, even new, squeal.

This was the First Mercedes I ever Owned and probably the last. When I first purchased it my frontheadlights and rear taillights kept blowing out and 97 thousand miles later they still do. More often than not I drive around with a light blown out. I cant tell you how many times Ive been pulled over for having a blown bulb right after having fixed them. ---that includes the interior as well. Transmission problems after only 30 thousand miles. Gas Gauge problems 2 X. Air condionter died after 80,000. Cost close to 2k. Mass airflow died at 85thousand. Dont lose your key it will cost you.The center sonsole doesnt open as you want. The glove compartment opens when it wants. Bad in snow.

My first Benz but I would say I couldnt be happier with the car. Its been 10 years since I purchased it and I have been very blessed. No major issues ~ mainly minor wear and tear.

  • Wish I Had Known - 2000 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Within the first 2 yrs. of owning this 2000 C-230 Komp, bought used, I have replaced the drivers side mirror, the seal got cracked and the fluid leaked down the side of my door, windshield wiper motor went out, had it replaced for $500, 3 months later, it went out again, I find out its the transmission for the motor thats bad, $1080 for that, now both have to be replaced, cup holder broke, no cd player in a Benz? Heat & air work sometimes. Sometimes it blows, sometimes not, temperature works sometimes, sometimes not. Now I owe more than its worth and cant get out from under it.

  • "Entry-level" headache - 2000 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

If you want luxury no other name can do it like MB. However what is there to a name if the vehicle doesnt live up to its prestige. I have owned my C230 for a year. It is an excellent daily driver but costly to keep prime. I have replaced the mass air flow sensor ($300 w/o labor), breaks twice (once w/ rotors all together $1300 w/ labor), and instrument panel computer ($expensive!). I am a cautious driver and maintain it well. Handles well at highway speeds, but the seats are tiring after 2 hours or so. This defeats the purpose of luxury. If you want a star on your hood look no further, but if you are looking for something behind the logo keep star gazing!

  • A fun little car - 2000 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

I bought this car as a certified pre- owned with 30K miles. The car is fun to drive and acceleration and handling are great. I drive the car hard and now with just around 120K mi, it still runs great and just as smooth. Only problem Ive had was radio head unit died and I replaced with an Alpine mated to the Bose amps and it sounds great for a tenth of what Mercedes wanted for a replacement. I plan on keeping this car till it finally dies, which could be another 100k at ths rate.

  • Wasted a lot of money - 2000 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

I have had nothing but problems from this car! Every other month something else breaks. This car was a certified pre-owned. During the very first month I owned this car it was in the shop for two weeks with mechanical problems. The problems have ranged from different censors going bad, to brakes wearing out way too soon, and even the middle air vents breaking twice!
