This Year's Model Updates:

Ever expanding and improving its brood of stately vehicles, Mercedes gives the C-Class a complete overhaul for 2001. A choice of two new engines, increased safety features and sleeker sheet metal tempt those who seek to gain a foothold into the exalted realms of Mercedes ownership.

Pros:
  • Solid construction, free scheduled maintenance, S-Class Jr. styling.
Cons:
  • Tight squeeze for backseat occupants, pricey for its segment.

  • Beware the New C Class!!! - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

I am very fond of German cars, but my experience with the 01 C240 has been a disappointment. This car has spent more time at the dealership than all my previous Benzs (3) and BMWs (5) combined. The dealership has been wonderful and most problems have been covered under waranty. However, it is a hassel finding the time to take car to dealer for repairs. My 99 C230 has been much more dependable. The only time it has seen the dealer is for routine maintance. If you want to drive a "Baby Benz", do yourself a favor and find late model W202 (older C Class)and save yourself alot of trouble and money.

This is the first MB that I have bought and it has been one of the biggest mistakes in my life. First, the car has frequent break-ups, from the wipers, to the air conditioning, to the suspension, to light bulbs, to whatever you want to think about. Second, the service is a real NIGHTMARE in Garage Isla Verde in San Juan, Puerto Rico. My experience is that they are unreliable, arrogant, indifferent and totally foreign to customer service excellence. Service is as bad as the C320. At least they are consistent on that!!! NEVER fall into the same mistake of trading your BMW for a MB. Youll regret it for the rest of your life.

  • WORST PURCHASE EVER - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The car LOOKS great on the inside & outside, but other than that its the worst purchase ever. Ive never had so many issues from a car than this one. This was my first & last MB purchase. The issues Ive had: taillights constantly go out, seats dont move anymore, ac/heather no longer work, belts broke, catalytic converter, the list goes on.

  • c240 always in the shop - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Ive had my C240 for 28 months now and it has had 21 repairs done on it. Bought the car in Arlington, Va and now live in Scottsdale, AZ. My attempt to get MB to take back this car and get me into another MB car have failed. Im very dissapointed in the reliability of this car and second, that the mfg. wont stand behind their product. The problems: electrical, sunroof motor, power seat motor, door wouldnt open from the inside, fuel gauge wouldnt read accurately (this one is especially great with a wife and two month old daughter) and more electrical problems! Wish I would have bought the BMW.

  • so many problems - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

I have owned my fully-loaded C320 for a year and a half. I had ordered it before it even started shipping or without looking at the demo because I had placed my order way in advance. I like the car, however the minor annoyance and problems are too numerous to mention. Probably my first and last Mercedes.

Since you dont have the 2002 C230-K yet available for comment on your site, I felt impelled to share a few comments about mine. The car is very cute from the outside, and pretty comfy from the inside, however I have had to bring the vehicle to the dealership 5 times over the past year. The all glass sunroof squeaks all the time,no matter what temp outside. They just cant seem to get it right. The ball bearings had to be changed already and the front windshield leaked thru to the floor. The side mirror lights have blown out twice in one year.I am very disappointed with the car and would not consider purchasing another Mercedes.

  • Frequent Expensive Repairs - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

This model car has numerous problems. My 55 yr old wife drives this car gently. Yet, after 90K miles, I have replaced: braking computer, rear brakes 3x, front brakes 6x, alternator, numerous sensors, spark plugs and wires 2x, MAF 2x, EGR Valve 2x, EGR tube, fuel pump, motor mounts 2x, rear coil springs, numerous bulbs, window regulators 3x, front speakers, door handle, battery 2x, wheel, keys 2x, front control arm, steering assembly, gas cap, and sway bar links. Yet to repair: fading LCD instrument display, pass seat heater, front shocks, cracked cigarette tray cover, shifter (base pulled away from console), steering wheel, valve cover gaskets, clicking noise in drive shaft, trunk handle.

I ordered the C240 months before the Dec 2000 delivery. During the first 2 years, the car had all kinds of minor problems that kept me returning to the dealership around twice a month. The rear light bulbs were out every week, the speakers were replaced twice, AC, windows. Between 20k to 65k, the car was a joy to drive, and was pretty much problem free. From 65k on, the AC was a problem, the check engine light, the coolant light, the digital dash, the battery, the noise from the steering. I had spend over $5k fixing items outside of normal maintance, and the car just keep coming up with new problems. This is the most unreliable foreign car I have ever own.
