This Year's Model Updates:

Ever expanding and improving its brood of stately vehicles, Mercedes gives the C-Class a complete overhaul for 2001. A choice of two new engines, increased safety features and sleeker sheet metal tempt those who seek to gain a foothold into the exalted realms of Mercedes ownership.

Pros:
  • Solid construction, free scheduled maintenance, S-Class Jr. styling.
Cons:
  • Tight squeeze for backseat occupants, pricey for its segment.

Mercedes advertises as a luxury vehicle- they should also advertise as dont give a crap customer service! This car is way overpriced.Have been to several dealerships for warranty work and not one of them has ever done a good job.Its the same thing time after time. When I called Mercedes to complain they said that each dealer is independent and that they have no control! What a load of crap! Toyota,Nissan,Honda care-even BMW.We need to get the word out about Mercedes so people will quit buying and the company will be forced to comply with consumers needs.I tried to trade this car in-even with factory warranty no one wants it.Dont buy Mercedes!

  • Caution DO NOT BUY! - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The vehicle has been in the shop for warranty repair twice a month since purchased - between electrical problems, sensor failures, integrated telephone failures (on 3rd phone), and overall lack of response from MB - RUN from purchasing one of these lemons! It basically boils down to one thing - MB no longer holds the reliability it once prided itself for manufacturing. They have gone the path of "Chrysler" reliability and quality.

  • Mercedes doesnt Care - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

No quality customer service here and Mercedes doesnt stand behind the car. Brakes are soft and need replacing often(they suggest every 10-14000 miles). Dealerships arent knowledgeable enough to do repairs(they nicked my leather, dented the hood and roof top, scratched the wood grain) and denied they did it. Dont buy from Mercedes..honda,toyota,nissan,bmw...anyone else is better.

  • Is this a MB or a BM? - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

all the articles that say MB reliabilty has gone down are correct. its also too small of a car for the price.

  • Worst Car EVER - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
    By -

I bought this car with only one previous owner with only 57k miles cash for 7k. Worst mistake ever. As soon as I got the car things started breaking down, transmission, electrical etc. If you are looking for a luxury vehicle STAY AWAY!

  • A lemon with a good engine - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The car was good when it was new. Then everything started to good bad. Audio system went bad several times. Transmission went bad. Sun roof malfunctions. Paint faded badly. Side moulding turns from black to tan. ESS went bad. Brakes vibrate a lot. The dealer was not able to fix this yet for the past 4 years. Gas mileage is way less than what was advertised. Lots of noise on bumpy roads. Engine is loud. Speaker went bad several times. Heating is slow. Vent solenoid went bad several times costing almost $1000 for each visit. CD Changer went bad twice. Turn signal bulb blows out too frequently. Cup holder gets stuck. More room is needed. Electronic diagnosis need to be more accurate. Cost me money.

  • ugh - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Multiple design flaws and even more build execution flaws: seats that go back and wont come up, groaning suspension, air vents to the windshield that do nothing but create condensation, poor quality paint, impossibly complex climate controls, even more impossibly complex key to seat setting control requirements................all exceeded by a service department that really doesnt seem to know what theyre doing, loaner cars with NO gas and rarely cleaned, blah blah blah. The sales rep (Calvin) was great; he is, unfortunately all too peerless. Im off to pick up a Lexus GS300; never should have strayed from the proven Japanese brand.

  • Dont Buy - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

My wife and I decided to treat ourselves to a MB. Big mistake. C240 was cheapest of the fleet but this car still cost $39,000 and has been nothing but trouble. Constant electrical problems. Car has actually died at stop lights. We were going to start with the C240 and move up to and E- Class. We are now looking at the BMW 5 series.
