This Year's Model Updates:

The MPV has been completely redesigned from top to bottom. Several unique features, like hinged rear doors and all-wheel drive, have disappeared. At the same time, items like roll-down windows in the sliding doors and tailgate seating in the third-row seats certify the MPV as a standout vehicle.

Pros:
  • Some innovative features, excellent road feel and driving position, optional sound system rocks.
Cons:
  • Weak and unrefined drivetrain, not as roomy as Grand Caravan, Odyssey or Windstar.

Very solid vehicle. I leased it originally because I was unsure of the engine/transmission combination.. while its not particularly powerful, I cant say its been a huge negative, and in fact I purchased the vechicle when it came off lease.

  • MPV still Zooms - 2000 Mazda MPV

Purchased new because it was NOT a big minivan and had a fold-under 3rd row seat. Handles better than some cars of similar weight and size. Power is adequate or better in most situations. @ 90,000 miles and 7 years, has original brakes and battery, no light bulb has ever burned out. No problem with any major system. MPG rated 23 highway, 18 city, all-around experience is about 22 MPG; have gotten 25+ on highway. Can easily remove 2nd row seats and fold under 3rd row for versatility. No power seat, but ergonomics are very good. Smaller outside dimensions means easy to maneuver.

I honestly do not know how other people have so many problems with their MPVs. This van was a demo with 10K and now has 155K. Everything still works like new after 7 yrs, even the CD changer has never jammed. This vehicle has been driven day after day with two kids and was fully put to the test. No major repairs except the trans was replaced under warranty at 75K because the dealer insisted it needed it when brought in for an unrelated noise. Very comfortable vehicle and easy to drive on long trips. Lots of innovative features not available at the time on other models. I could not have asked for a more reliable vehicle. If Mazda still made the MPV we would trade for a new one today.

  • Love My Van,Not The Dealer - 2000 Mazda MPV

I have owned my van for 3and a half years now. I dont think I could ever go back to driving a car. I love the extra protection I feel being up higher and with the size of the van. The only problem I had was it pulled to the left, which my original dealer claimed they fixed. I found my tires on the left side wore out at only 41,000 miles, even though I had them rotated regularly.

I love my MPV. It has 115K miles on it, and Ive had NO major trouble with it at all. Oil change, rotate, and balance are the only things Ive ever done, and it runs like new. The only repairs to this vehicle have been a new lock actuator for the drivers door, and a new cable assembly for the power window in the drivers door. I still have the original brakes on it! My next vehicle will be another MPV!

purchased the ES with 55000 miles after family mechanic evaluation. So,far no major problems. My two kids loves the feaures of the ES especially the tv,windows and the 2nd row seats that can pulled together. My husband likes the way they can be pulled apart ( stop touching he yells! ). We have only taken this car to the mechanic once because it would cut off (needed new battery covered under warranty). Brakes sounds like they are going out coming down hills mechanic says there find.

  • Honda features without the high price! - 2000 Mazda MPV

My brother bought the Honda Odessey and I figured when he drove my MPV he would pan it. Not so. He loved it. He loved the interior, the CD changer, the moonroof option, the handling. My 2000 didnt have the power door option and has the smaller V6 but other than that is has been a great van. The fold and hide rear seat is great and so easy.

  • Great size, good fuel efficiency - 2000 Mazda MPV

Had a Windstar, found it too large and heavy; bought an MPV, found it just perfect for a family of four, who loves to travel.
