Overview & Reviews
The Mazda CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV with seating for five. Introduced for 2007, it was a refinement on the more utilitarian Tribute and like most newer Mazdas, it has an athletic demeanor. The CX-7 also incorporates most of the elements that continue to make crossovers so popular, including carlike handling, available all-wheel drive and a useful amount of cargo capacity.
Although the CX-7 is fun to drive as crossovers go, its base four-cylinder engine is memorable for its sluggish acceleration and subpar fuel economy. The available turbocharged four-cylinder solves the performance problem, but its fuel economy is even worse. With the efficient CX-5 waiting in the wings, the CX-7 was phased out after the 2012 model year.

A BLAST TO DRIVE - 2008 Mazda CX-7
By Ryan - June 19 - 10:33 pmWe purchased ours in Feb 2008 after test driving the Murano, 4Runner, Pathfinder and also a Civic. We love it! This is thing has excellent handling and great acceleration. This isnt a luxury car. Its the perfect car for people who love driving and need a more practical car than a sports car. The autostick is great but the regular automatic works so well that you rarely need to switch over to autostick. Its the best car we could find in our price range. We did have one warantee issue with a "Turbo Tensioner" that needed to be replaced at around 6mos old, but we were given a loaner and within 2 days we were back in it with no other issues since.

2007 Mazda CX-7 - 2007 Mazda CX-7
By anna - June 17 - 12:13 pmThe car looks nice but the tires are terrible. I only have 11,000 miles on the car and already need to replace all 4. Im only 52 and there are a lot of blind spots in this vehicle. Fuel efficiency is ok, thankfully I only drive around town.

A little disapointed - 2007 Mazda CX-7
By Peter - May 26 - 10:06 amThis vehicle is a little like a body builder. Looks great and impressive from a distance. However, when you really get to know it its a little disappointing. I was very excited to buy this car but was so thoroughly unimpressed with the engine and performance I just couldnt get myself to buy it. The 4 cylinder turbo is jerky and lags quite a bit. The biggest problem is the fact that when you hit the gas the engine screams so loud you feel like its in the passenger seat. I am a Mazda lover having owned two, I will re-visit the CX-7 when my wife gets ready to replace her vehicle I hope by then they change the powertrain.

CX-7- a really nice garage ornament ! - 2007 Mazda CX-7
By fliar - May 15 - 10:00 amYou will LOVE this car- right up until it becomes a garage ornament! This car has GREAT styling and performance UNTIL you start having known issues with it- 1. the A/C compressors are known to fail/smoke/catch fire 2. the timing chains are known to break in even LOW MILEAGE cars and trash the engine 3. poor turbo cooling design leads to sludge buildup and failure. Numerous owner reports in Mazda forums of MAZDA NOT honoring the 5 year/ 60,000 mile Powertrain Warranty to repair the trashed motors citing "poor owner maintenance" even when owners present valid oil change receipts, etc. Overall, the nicest car you are ever going to HATE! Avoid this engineering nightmare!

Whats with all the complaints? - 2007 Mazda CX-7
By lmf10910 - May 13 - 12:42 amI bought my 2007 with 19k miles on it and have to have my thudding brakes replaced after 3k miles of driving. Mazda covered it. AND THATS ALL IVE HAD TO! I honestly dont understand why so many people have had so many problems. Maybe I got lucky, but I am a previous Volvo owner and would love to hate a Mazda, but cant... its fast, has a smooth drive, truly great on gas for a smaller crossover (much better that my friends CR-V), and never gives me any issues. I wish I had problems with it to maybe go back to luxury, but the truth is, its a great car, especially for the money. Yeah the floor mats are cheap, but its not a Lexus...

THIS ONE MAKES MY WIFE SMILE - 2007 Mazda CX-7
By POSE - April 24 - 7:26 amWe just purchased our CX-7 Sport and find it more fun than we had anticipated. It is quick, smooth and handles extremely well. I test drove a Mitsubishi Outlander, Toyota Rav4, Hyundai Santa Fe and Honda CR-V. None of them has the leg and headroom and the power of the CX-7. I am six feet two inches tall and 300 pounds and I fit in the car with lots of extra room. The four cylinder turbo is great. Only the Mitsubishi came close to the power and quickness of the CX-7. The outside is very sleek. It looks more like a sports car than a SUV. The other thing that was nice was the price, very nice. We look forward to driving our CX-7 for a long time.

Not worth it - 2007 Mazda CX-7
By Matt - April 21 - 3:16 amTraded in a Mazda3 for this new CX-7. To begin with the car does have a cool look to it and got a few stares here and there. Heres the thing, Mazda recommends Super Unleaded to get the full potential of the turbo engine. My MPG after break-in averaged 19 mpg combined city/highway easy driving, which just plain stinks. It has a major turbo lag, for instance if you punch it from a dead stop it feels like you have a 2 cylinder car, then after 2-3 seconds it suddenly accelerates. New firmware for the cars computer did help a little, though. The car was fun to drive and a pain to get in and out of due to the door sills being way high. Traded this CX-7 after 8200 miles.
