This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

  • The perfect car for me - 2005 Jeep Liberty

This vehicle is nice to look at and so much fun to drive. It is diffinitely not a bumpy riding car. There is plenty of room for storage.

  • Very nice JEEP! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

This is my first Jeep & I love it! Got the Limited, V6 with the leather, sunroof, heated seats & mirrors, 6 CD changer with Infinity speakers. The power is adequate for its class and has a lot of "get up and go!" I wish it was better at the pump ... only about 15-6 MPG. Im 61"/240# and I have plenty of leg room in the front; the back is a bit tight for me. Its fun to drive and handles very well. Recently took it on a long road trip, and its very comfortable and a smooth ride (It does get some wind noise). I was going to purchase foreign, but with the rebates and all that I got with this, I went with American.

I love my Jeep Liberty. It is very reliable and suits my everyday needs. I am very excited about the new Jeep Commander. I cant wait to see it in person. I am seriously considering trading Liberty in for the Commander. It was love at first sight!

I have the Rocky Mountain edition of the 2004 Jeep Liberty. LOVE IT! Handles great. Moves when you want it to move. Drove like a dream in a foot and a half of snow. My wife drives this vehicle more than I do. But I love it so much I am buying another Jeep for myself.

  • Hunk of junk - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I bought this Jeep with high hopes. Boy that got shattered. This thing has had more problems than I can count. First its not the dealerships mechanics fault but DC. They should give all repair facilities the equipment they need to fix them. Jeep has been in dealership more times than I ever could imagine. Took 11 months to fix the no start problem. Discovered it to be bad fuel injector. Had many parts replaced as a guess as to what was wrong. Terrible vehicle. I average 19 MPG. When first bought got upper 20S and 30+ on highway. After fixed now its 19!

  • Should have known :( - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Ok ... I love(d) my Liberty. I think its decent looking, nice size, nice capabilities, practical for what I want in a vehicle. But lets be honest here... I only got it because it was a cheaper alternative to a Nissan Xterra. I was very happy with it, however, till about 10 months and 22,000 miles into owning it. I have had it in the shop 5 times since then and it still hasnt been fixed. Its turning into a nightmare and I am about to look into the Lemon Law. First it was blowing spark plugs, then it was going through fuel injectors, and now it needs a new head gasket ... with 31,000 miles. What kind of quality is that? And the dealership is giving me the runaround. Thanks Chrysler!

  • If you are thinking of buying one, dont - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Engine runs poorly, fuel economy is poor, FWD only works some of the time. The dealer has been very cooperative in attempting to repair it, but MoPar wont help them. We have owned a lot of new cars over the years and I have to say this one is the worst.

  • Bad front drive shaft - 2005 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I am now on my 6th front drive shaft. I am also having my front ball joints replaced for the 3rd time. I have had the rear speed sensor replaced 8 times. It is costing so much to maintain. Also the wrap around back doors makes the doors impossible to open in freezing weather. Mud and snow builds up and freezes.

  • Well Pleased with our Liberty - 2005 Jeep Liberty

We have had the Liberty for about 4 months now. It continues to perform flawlessly and delivers about 20mpg around town. With all of its torque you must be careful accelerating in the wet. Other than that its a blast.

  • Jeep Family - 2005 Jeep Liberty

We just picked up our new Liberty. We traded a 2000 Grand Cherokee and we also have a 2004 Jeep TJ. So far this Jeep is everything we expect and more. My wife would take my TJ because she loved the handling and the tight turning to park just about anywhere. This carries over to the Liberty but with the comforts that she wanted, like the heated leather seats, sunroof, power door locks windows, etc. The only dislike she has with her Liberty is that nobody does the "Jeep Wave" like they do with the Wrangler.
