This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

  • Lifetime Jeeper - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I am a lifetime Jeeper owner. I had my Wrangler for 10 years before I got the Liberty. I think that I knew that I wanted it the second that I saw it at a local car show. This is definitly the "grown up" version of the Wrangler. It has more space, go power and overall class than the other compact SUVs. The Liberty has a style all its own, and is simply unmistakable on the road. Simply put... Its a Jeep thing, you wouldnt understand. :)

I did a lot of research to find what automobile would suit my needs, and I was very excited when I bought my Liberty. Ten months later I cant wait to trade it in. I only get 16.5 mpg and I am cautious about putting my foot in it. There is a mysterious rattle in the back that drives me nuts, I put the radio up loud so I cant hear it. I also hate the way the transmission shifts ... very jerky. I also dont like that it reminds you that you need service every time you turn on your car (while having to wait for my oil change appointment). I also have put in a 3rd windshield because the smallest rock cracks the windshield. I had a Toyota before and never had a problem ... Im definitely going back.

  • Watch out for your engine! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport. It has given me minor problems since I purchased in 2005. I only have 87000 miles on it and I need to have a cylinder replaced. I was told not to put another penny into it unless I wanted to replace the engine. My mechanic says he has seen this on several Libertys. I have kept up with its maintenance and given it the TLC that it needs - well I thought I did. What a rip off! No more Jeeps for me!

  • Great all around Jeep! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

The vehicle is exceptional in all areas. The upgrades to full 4 wheel disc is an improvement. The ride and handling is well tuned. Fuel economy could be better, but the vehicle weight is a great safty feature if you ask me and out weighs the fuel issue. The exterior is the typical smooth lined Jeep history of good looks and off road capabilities. All and all I would say this Liberty is well worth the money and very reliable.

We plan to tow this Jeep with a 36 foot diesel motor home. Have been towing a Chevy Tracker 1999 model. Looking forward to enjoying comfort, reliability and appearance of our new 2005 Jeep.

Love my Liberty Sport. We gets tons of snow here. This little powerhouse just plowed through it like a hot knife through butter. You could feel the 4WD dig in as the ice developed on the roads. This is my 1st experience with a Jeep - Im a believer now! Can hardly wait to take it to the mountains of British Columbia this summer and do some climbing.

  • Life saver - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Owned 10 or more previous vehs. (3rd brand new). Over 116k miles later wouldnt trade it for the world. The handling and stability saved our lives - kept us from even having the accident (another driver made left from oncoming lane 50-75 feet in front of us while traveling approx. 55 mph) I Love the tight steering. Original brakes went 84k and still had plenty left. Will be passing on to children.

This is a great vehicle. Its not as big as other SUVs. Perfect for a small family. I know in a couples of years I will be trading it in on another one.

  • The best - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I have had 2 of these. My first one I bought in 2001 I gave that to my wife after I put 45,000 miles. Best 4x4 on the road.

The Jeep Liberty is comfortable, unique, quick, reliable and fun to drive. The short turning radius is great for around town and that is how its driven mostly.
