This Year's Model Updates:

With the redesigned Jeep Cherokee's debut pushed back until the summer of 2001 as a 2002 model, the current model will remain in place for the 2001 model year with minor changes. The 4.0-liter PowerTech inline-six engine is standard equipment in all 2001 Cherokees, with the 2.5-liter inline four, along with the SE trim, dropped. The previous Limited trim is also dropped, with the former Classic trim now labeled Limited. All 2001 Cherokees offer child seat tethers as standard equipment.

Pros:
  • Powerful engine, affordable, extremely capable off-road.
Cons:
  • Boxy styling, small rear seat, difficult entry/exit.

  • My 2001 Jeep Cherokee - A TIME BOMB! - 2001 Jeep Cherokee

I have not had my car 3 years and I just had to replace the engine (3 days after a regular tune-up at the dealership). The car broke down on a highway 130 miles from home. So far I have paid 3K out of pocket for thsi incident. Chrysler paid for parts b/c they know they made a poor quality engine. To top it all off - 1 day after picking my car up from the dealer with the new engine - the car broke down again - and I had to have the radiator replaced. I have always done all of the suggested maintinence on the car and should not have had this trouble.

I waited years for a Jeep. Wanted A Wrangler, but I am a professional guitarist, and needed the interior room for my gear. I have had this Jeep almost two years now, and have very few complaints. It kills off- road, kills in the snow, and will track through deep mud almost like its on dry pavement. Handles great on the highway too, although high winds can be an adventure. At over 100,000 miles, it still runs incredibly strong. I regularly take it on long road trips without a second thought. It tends to chew up tires, its loud, not real cushy, and the fuel economy could be better, but hey, its a 4WD truck, not a luxury vehicle. I plan to drive it until it croaks or I do.

  • LOVE the exterior but unreliable - 2001 Jeep Cherokee

I bought my car new in 2001 (Jeep Cherokee Sport). I still LOVE the look of the exterior and its great in the snow. I thought I would keep it forever for that reason. However, it is 4 years old now and we have had to bring it in 4 times in the past 9 months to get it fixed, totaling over $2500. The AC compressor blew out and had to be replaced. The brakes have already had to be replaced several times and the engine light seems like its always on regardless of how many times weve brought it in. Im really disappointed but I think we have to sell it now because we simply cant afford it anymore. If you take into account our repair bills over the past year, our monthly payment has been >$600/month ...ugh!

Cubans should buy this jeep. It will be around as long as the 50s cars they drive now and it will be alot nicer. I like keeping things that dont get abandoned by the rest of the rest! We still can buy parts no problem for a jeep 20 yrs old. do as done

This is our second car, the other being a Grand Cherokee. When the announced the last of the classic Cherokees, we headed out and bought a fully loaded Limited version to keep long term. This is our third Cherokee and we love this vehicle. It is powerful, fun to drive, rugged good looks, comfortable and it was the most vehicle for the money I have ever seen. It has never let us down and has had not one problem with anything. I have a few issues but overall, this last of the Cherokees was the best of them all. If you dont have to drive the most refined vehicle around, this Jeeps for you.

  • Jeep still has it! - 2001 Jeep Cherokee

For one of the lower priced SUVs on the market, the Cherokee still performs. I only hope the Liberty shines as bright as the Cherokee has.

  • Not carseat friendly! - 2001 Jeep Cherokee

It was great until I had a baby. The rear doors are just not large enough nor open wide enough to comfortably put the baby carrier in and out. Many average sized adults have difficulty getting in & out as well. Especially if the front seats are slid back. Not something I acn deal with. I will be looking for something different, especially when the 2nd child comes along. Dont know how I will fit 2 carseats!

This is my 4th jeep cherokee, and I guess my last one since they quit making them. I love it. It powers up hills, flies past the slow moving vehicles on passing opportunities. When I had a toyota there was no passing allowed, it didnt have enough umhph. But cherokees, no problem. Its great off-road, its small dimensions are perfect for tight hairpin turns on narrow, steep dirt roads. And all my jeeps have been extremely reliable. nothing has gone wrong on them and I drove each one till 130,000 miles.
