Expected more... - 1998 Jeep Cherokee
By rlb4227 - December 14 - 1:31 amWas reliable until about 100K. Was constantly in the shop. At about 118K was in the shop monthly. Finally overheated on the side of the interstate and was pronounced dead. I was expecting much more from a Jeep. Previously owned a 93 Cherokee and made it just past 200K before it died.

1998 Jeep is not too exciting - 1998 Jeep Cherokee
By jshmanda - October 8 - 10:00 amThe car has not been too bad. Bought it for the teenage kids and it survived five years. No engine problems, but the radio needed to be replaced, window regulator had to be replace, fog light switched was replaced, sometimes the dash board goes blank, and the A/C system has a leak.

1998 Jeep Cherokee 4DR 4WD Sport - 1998 Jeep Cherokee
By Officer_ndogg - May 30 - 2:00 amIf your looking for a late model sport utility with good offroad ability, at an affordable price, this is a good choice. The Cherokees 4.0L 6Cyl provides good acceleration and performance, but lousy fuel economy. The interior is made of mostly plastic and rattles and squeaks a lot. The interior is comfortable but definately not roomy, though, there is lots of cargo space. The ride is pretty bumpy on the road, but off road is where it shines. Handling is average. Overall, a good truck-like 4WD SUV with good off road performance at a cheap price.

Keeping for the kids - 1998 Jeep Cherokee
By Dad - April 23 - 10:00 amI have owned this jeep for 11 years and it is the most reliable car I have ever purchased. Jeep only has 70K, but has dents and scratches from trees, rocks, bikes. Always starts, never comfortable. Goes through snow, mud, sand with no problems. Powerful engine, you can hear the frame groan whenever you hit the gas. This is the perfect car for my two teenagers. Never in the shop for any reason, other than normal maintenance. I need a more comfortable SUV but I cant afford a new one. I like the Nitro, but heard many bad things about it- maybe a used Trailblazer?

A little adds up to a lot - 1998 Jeep Cherokee
By Snow in DC - February 19 - 10:00 amIve enjoyed our Jeep. Purchased at 68K and now at 109K weve had to replace the exhaust system, the heater core, the AC core, the water pump, the brakes, the left signal doesnt work, and the left speaker also doesnt work. With a ten year old in the back seat its too small. We also had to purchase a turtle for the top b/c the back is too small for a family of fours luggage. But all in all, weve enjoyed it and plan on keeping it for awhile. After all, weve had all of the work done! What more could go wrong??

By Connick - October 31 - 10:00 amGoing on 4 years old my 99 white ltd is still very reliable. The only issue I had was the replacement of the front wheel bearings. Other than that Its been pretty good. Never had any problems engine-wise.

After 20 yrs youd think itd be perfect - 1998 Jeep Cherokee
By fishooked - September 22 - 10:00 ambut it certainly is not. Right now I have about 68K on my 1998. One of my biggest complaints is the tiny glove box, and poor layout for storage of other items such as maps, change, whatever. I can barely fit anything in my glove box except for my owners manual. There should be side pockets in the doors for loose stuff. The center console layout stinks. It makes a lot of rattling noises, and it has also leaked water in it as well. Ive had problems with my rotors getting warped and having to be replaced twice already. Not great gas mileage; over 120.00 a month easy for gas.

Great performance, crappy interior - 1998 Jeep Cherokee
By Golf09 - April 1 - 10:00 amI am a high school kid who bought the jeep with 87000 miles on it. Got for a heck of a deal, $6800. It is an amazing car except when it comes to the interior. All the cheap plastic and other junk in there rattles or squeaks. The backseat is also a pain in the butt to get in and out of. Also the gas gauge seems to be getting a little weak. Just last weak i was on empty, put 6 bucks in and some how was still on empty.???
