Do these things ever die? - 1996 Jeep Cherokee
By MaxHops - September 3 - 8:40 pmI have had my Jeep for 12 years and have only had standard maintenance work done. Water pump, brakes, shocks, serpentine belt, tires, oil are the only thing I have had to replace. The V6 in this is called the iron maiden for its extreme reliability. I think I could drive it for another 10 years if I need to.

1996 Jeep Sport Classic 4DR 2WD - 1996 Jeep Cherokee
By mariobox - August 10 - 10:00 amAfter seven years the only problem Ive had is a couple of oxigen sensors that needed replacement ($350). Other than that, this Jeep has earned its keep and then some. Strong and reliable as can be.

Jeep! - 1996 Jeep Cherokee
By thennig - February 21 - 6:53 pmI bought this vehicle about five years ago and still enjoy driving it! The inline six is a tough and reliable engine (original AMC engine design with some Chrysler modern mortifications). The vehicle is truly a SUV, its nothing to brag about, its very thirsty, and its very versatile. What can I say, Its a Jeep!

Tough and Reliable SUV - 1996 Jeep Cherokee
By cc - December 22 - 5:30 amIt has been a very reliable vehicle, and still runs great at 219,000 miles. I used to drive it daily until it was hit from behind. Now I use it mainly for hauling and plan to let kids drive it eventually. I would not hesitate to buy another Cherokee. They are a great value for the money.

A true SUV icon. - 1996 Jeep Cherokee
By stillgoing - September 29 - 1:00 pmPurchased in 1998 with 44,000 miles. Now approaching 230,000 virtually trouble-free miles. This solid vehicle has been a reliable constant in my life throughout several major life changes. Always starts easily, has great torque, strong 4WD, superb off- road capability, sure and confident handling. The I6 engine is the best Chrysler has made. Paint and body still looks new. Have needed to replace radiator, rotors, brake hardware, clutch, water pump, serp belt, and steering gear box but thats about it. Of course it has a bit of highway noise, interior and instrument materials are rather cheap, and it is a not as comfy as a new SUV. However, these are not what sets a Jeep apart from the rest.

A Great Suv - 1996 Jeep Cherokee
By John Perrin - August 31 - 2:00 amOverall I have really enjoyed owning My 1996 Cherokee. It is a very useful SUV. Other that the cup holder and the rear seat, I have no complaints. I am not quite sure why Jeep discounted the Cherokee; it looks a hell of a lot better than the new Liberty.

Continues to Please - 1996 Jeep Cherokee
By grtride - August 8 - 2:00 amThis vehicle just continues to be great. There has been absolutely no reliability problems. In over 76,000 miles the only repairs have been new brake shoes and pads, other than standard maintenance. It is great off- road, tows a trailer easily, and is just fun to drive. No, its not car- like, but why buy an SUV if you want it to be a car?
