This Year's Model Updates:

With the redesigned Jeep Cherokee's debut pushed back until the summer of 2001 as a 2002 model, the current model will remain in place for the 2001 model year with minor changes. The 4.0-liter PowerTech inline-six engine is standard equipment in all 2001 Cherokees, with the 2.5-liter inline four, along with the SE trim, dropped. The previous Limited trim is also dropped, with the former Classic trim now labeled Limited. All 2001 Cherokees offer child seat tethers as standard equipment.

Pros:
  • Powerful engine, affordable, extremely capable off-road.
Cons:
  • Boxy styling, small rear seat, difficult entry/exit.

  • Why Jeeps should be MORE expensive - 2001 Jeep Cherokee

The Jeep Cherokee Sport 1998 edition. This Well crafted vehicle should be priced at a more extravagent price i bought my Jeep in 2001 at 19,000 now i cant even get 11,000 for it (not that i am selling)

  • Buyer BEWARE - 2001 Jeep Cherokee
    By -

Purchased new in 2001. Vehicle has been back to dealer five (5) times for brake noise. Roters and Pads replaces at 11000 miles. Dealer said "Its normal for jeep", "Expect brakes and roters every 9 to 12k". Road noise is terrible, have to yell at passenger, there is no head room, and seat travel is minimal. Just traded it with 22K for Honda CR-V. Will never buy Jeep again!!

  • Awesome Rig! - 2001 Jeep Cherokee
    By -

This rig is fun to drive with great torque and HP for its light weight. The body is classically styled. Its probably a better off roader than its big brother the Grand Cherokee. Compared to my Ford Explorer its a much better off roader with 10+ inches of ground clearance; much better acceleration; better engine and tranny.

  • Bye, Bye Jeep... - 2001 Jeep Cherokee

Ive driven jeeps for the past 5 years and have been pretty happy overall. If jeep had continued to manufacture the Cherokee Limited I probably would have continued to drive it. However, I did experience a number of recurring issues on both my Cherokee and SE models that proved extremely annoying.

  • 2000 CLASSIC 4X4 - 2001 Jeep Cherokee
    By -

Purchased my 2000 Classic 4 X 4 used with 18600 miles. Previously had a 99 Wrangler with 70,000 miles on it and wanted something a little more practical. It now has 24000 miles on it and in that time I have had to replace the front rotors--they came at a hefty price tag--and had the rear window washer pump replaced under warranty. The power is great, fuel economy if driven correctly is impressive, and I like the transmission. Havent had the opportunity to go through snow, but am looking forward to it!!!

Look for a rust free example. I wanted one that was not molested. Minor things are worn out or broken, but no big deal. I have invested in a 4.5 inch lift kit as ALL the suspension was original and worn out. Gauges are a little twitchy but functional. MUCH more power than my Forester and more room also. I like the option of 2WD,Part time 4 WD,4 WD and 4WD low range. Went with the 4.5 lift to fit the 32/11.50-15 tires I bought for it. My son has been buying, fixing, selling and 4 wheeling these Jeeps for years and he finally talked me into one 3 weeks ago. Choice of parts is much larger compared to my subie. Now I just have to wait for a warmer day to install my stash of new parts (lift kit, turbo exhaust, brake upgrade to rear disc)

  • Nothing Like It - 2001 Jeep Cherokee
    By -

There is nothing like the Jeep Cherokee. I bought my Jeep with ~50,000 miles on it back in 2004. It rides rough, but this rugged vehicle was bult to last. After driving it over 60,000 miles I have had to replace the AC condenser, tires, battery, and brake rotors (my Fault). Nothing else has been replaced. I have hauled almost 1000 lbs of crap in the back of it at one time. I still love Charolette (my Jeep).

Jeep should have never stopped making this wonderful 4x4. A true classic that can not be replaced by current models. Now will have to wait for the Jeep Rescue!

  • Tires, Battery, Belt, Shocks, Brakes - 2001 Jeep Cherokee
    By -

I have 170,000 miles on the Cherokee - it had 32 when I bought it. I am on tire set 5, shocks set 3, belt 3, battery 4, brakes 5. Ive replaced the plugs three times, the valve cover gasket once, serviced the differentials twice each. Oil changes every 5 to 7000 miles, (in spite of what is recommended). One radiator. Bulbs and headlights and what-have- you: once or twice. The worst repair was the air, once, $1300, and how bad is that, really? I doubt Ive put more than $6000 into it over the many miles, about 1/6 th of which were off-roadish, it has carried me. If your Cherokee hasnt done the same, I dont think you put enough love into it. Jeep owners will understand this.

  • Great car in the snow! - 2001 Jeep Cherokee

My car is 15 years old now, with a lot of miles on it, and has lost some of its power going up in the mountains...acceleration power is limited...
