This Year's Model Updates:

With the redesigned Jeep Cherokee's debut pushed back until the summer of 2001 as a 2002 model, the current model will remain in place for the 2001 model year with minor changes. The 4.0-liter PowerTech inline-six engine is standard equipment in all 2001 Cherokees, with the 2.5-liter inline four, along with the SE trim, dropped. The previous Limited trim is also dropped, with the former Classic trim now labeled Limited. All 2001 Cherokees offer child seat tethers as standard equipment.

Pros:
  • Powerful engine, affordable, extremely capable off-road.
Cons:
  • Boxy styling, small rear seat, difficult entry/exit.

This is a good vehicle. I wish it was a little more quiet. Also, it is rough, running and idleing. Power and handeling is wonderful.

Bought a 2001 jeep cherokee classic 4x4 with 15k miles on it and was pleased with it but in a middle of the road way. It was very reliable and durable but it was a jeep. Every one had one at the time and you couldnt pick kit out in a parking lot. It was loud and rough riding (I know it wasnt made for comfort) but in an kidney bursting way. Dont get me wrong it was a great car that never gave me trouble and was fare offroad but being a car guy I could never really like it enough to the point I loved to drive it or wanted to keep it. When we sold it the family didnt even blink, when we sold the hummer h3 my son cried and kissed it on the fender and said we will miss you lol.

I bought my Jeep Cherokee primarily due to the interior and exterior styling and positive reviews on the vehicle. Unfortunately, ongoing mechanical problems have been a nightmare. I will never purchase a Chrysler product again, as the poor quality of the vehicle and the horrible customer service on behalf of Golling Chrysler have proven that quality and customer satisfaction is not important to Chrysler.

Go anywhere do anything type rig. Four wheel drive is flawless, Hp and Torque right on the money. This tows my 4500 pound boat with no hesitation. Road noise is only complaint

Good car, wish they still kept making them after 2001. Good value, 4WD and space at a very affordable price. Why did they stop and replace with the smaller, uglier Liberty?

I have 175,000 miles on my jeep and nothing is slowing it down. I have had some recent repairs due to wearable items and had some issues with the check engine light. Really...the best vehicle I have ever purchased. I am sure it will last to 200,000 miles and beyond. The back seat could have more room, but it fits my daughters car seat and toys just fine. It is a great off roading vehicle. It has one of the only true SUV off-roading suspensions. I love it.

Chrysler totally blew it when they discontinued this model in a pathetic attempt to court the soccer mom set. They have yet to produce anything even close and now they are looking for a government hand out? That 4.0, 6 cylinder is rock solid and has plenty of power. The is a simple vehicle that any mechanic and most back yard tinkers can work on. I use mine for commuting, back country trout fishing, beach driving and towing my boat. It has over 120k miles(just a pup) and it has cost me almost nothing in repairs. I have owned a Trooper, 4Runner and a Grand Cherokee. This little SUV beats them all hands down. Wake up Chrysler give us back our real Cherokee and maybe youll even turn a profit.

11 years old and deserves a garage and to take a break from the St. Louis summer heat. This is the best vehicle I will ever own. Its only downside is the a/c which is why I bought another car to tag team the seasons. Since 2001, I have replaced the evap core, compressor and engine thermostat (just to be on the safe side, problem cleared). I just dont care that I blew the front speakers and time did its thing to the headliner. The original battery lasted more than 6 years. The back brakes are original at 73k. Nothing is better than driving this car in any situation, any terrain. I havent shoveled snow in my driveway for 11 yrs. Independence and laziness at its finest.

The Cherokee is the purest SUV on the road, and is a perfect example of form following function. The Cherokees simple, clean lines make it a handsome standout amongst the gawdy road yachts of today. It accelerates and corners like a roadster, it can pull like a Mack Truck, and it can go through snow like a ski-doo. What a beautiful thing. No DVD players, no navigation systems, no dual climate zones. There is nothing about a Cherokee that distracts you from its purpose. This truck is built to be fun as all heck on the road, and rock steady off the road.
